I know, I ate at Five Guys in Orlando earlier this year. It's the exchange rate we get shafted with. Somehow $1 = £1 when its travelled across the Atlantiic. Just checked the UK price list and it is £8 for Cheeseburger. £6.75 Hamburger. Regular Fries £4, Large fries £5. Although a large fries would feed a family.
This place in Sheffield makes Taco Bell look like they're serving up garbage http://www.streetfoodchef.co.uk/ And these two places in Barnsley knock spots off anything you'll find at any franchise joint. http://www.8ozburgerco.co.uk/index.php.html http://grillpitbarnsley.co.uk/ At one time finding a decent burger/burrito in the UK outside of London was a difficult task. These days, I don't know why anyone would walk in to a fast food chain if they're interested in the quality of the food rather than the price. And even then, the portions in the independents are twice the size, so I still feel I'm getting better value for money.
The grill pit as received real mixed reviews from the folk I've spoken to so I tried it myself for the first time a few weeks back, I thought the food was delicious my only mistake was when my starter turned up on a barrow truck, I finished up having most of my main meal wrapped to take home, the portions are huge.
The Taco Bell is around the same price as KFC. Same price for standard meals however they charge slightly more to get a some sort of sweet afterwards but thats optional. The drinks are also refillable.
The thing is.. These aren't places where you can just nip in and walk out/drive away with food 5 minutes later. I agree that the quality and volume of food is of a much higher standard but that's exactly what you should expect when you're going and eating within a restaurant... in my opinion it's not really fair to compare these places to a fast food joint. I certainly wouldn't sit and eat Taco Bell whilst comparing it to the food I ate at Neon Cactus in Leeds nor would I consider a trip to Byron if I was hungover and fancied a burger. For some people, a trip to The Grill Pit or 8oz may be seen as a treat and not just going out for dinner - Would your average customer visit 8oz in place of McDonald's every visit? Doubtful.
Street food chef in Sheffield does take away. I do appreciate what you're saying and it's a good point. I just prefer to go less often to more quality places. When I fancy a burger, what I get from a fast food place never hits the spot.
I love Taco Bell precisely because it's disgusting. You can't beat occasionally debasing yourself with a greasy wrap full of grease, "meat", salt and transfats. Great hangover fodder.
Really? I think it's excellent! Well, excellent is a bit OTT, but I do like the place to be honest. And as Jay says, 8oz is just as good. IMO, of course
