If it were me i'd take the knee as a line of least resistance even though inwardly I'd find it a bit cohersed. I genuinely think a lot of sports people are doing that. That's not really the message either.

There has to be a better way. Perhaps punishing people for being racist? What's taking a knee showing white supremacists?

We're still having debates about racism and the actual taking of the knee. So I'd say nothing.

Kaepernick said at the time: "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of colour."
This guy started it and others adopted it.

I think the trouble with these things is they lose their impact, it’s not compulsory but it is kind of, and when it’s done so often it just becomes another ‘thing’
A bit like two teams shaking hands with each other pre match doesn’t stop some of them kicking lumps off of each other or cheating, so what’s the point.
Thing is I can’t think of an alternative at the moment

Taking the knee seemed a just and powerful message of support against racism, however adding the raised fist of the black power movement totally destroyed it’s meaning for me.

A much more educated piece on the South Africa BLM dilemma. SA is a very complex country and we should refrain from making sweeping statements about their stance on racism.

The main thing to me is that it is what black sportsmen/women decided to do to symbolise black oppression. White sportsmen/women joined in to show solidarity. I just can't see the issue with it. If they'd decided to jump up and down 3 times then I'd join in to show support.

I agree to an extent Helen, but the message and effect of the act has been diluted greatly now

The issues still needs highlighting, taking the knee is still powerful but its never been done with crowds in the grounds. Eventually when we return we need to go back to it, then we'll see and hear the the racist detractors first hand. Then it's for the fans and clubs deal with em. Covid's put the racists in front of their TVs, let's see if they've got the balls to complain in the grounds.

Players shaking hands or rather fist pumps, toss of coin and kick off like football used to before we had politics forced on us

Well everyone started doing it and we have to watch it when watching the team we love, yes I can not start watching till just after kick off which I have done but if I watch the team coming out and want to see the kick off I’m forced to watch it , so is everyone else !

have you never been to a football match? especially in the 70’s and 80’s. It’s still prevalent today. It’s needs stopping.

it’s not just a football problem but it’s highly noticeable at football. If it annoys you good, you’ll call out the racists and then we won’t have to take a knee.

I'm proud that the players of Barnsley FC take the knee and would be happy to do the same. There's no way I want to be associated with the scumbags who messaged Clarke Oduor earlier this year and their apologists.

I didn’t go in the 70’s but I did in the 80’s and witnessed it on occasions probably more than I remember, if someone was doing it near where I sit I would absolutely call them out but not sure why it needs to continue is all ! It’s far more rife around take aways and resteraunts but nobody takes the knee as I go in UK fried chicken
