It is obvious that none of you lot have a teacher in the family. My wife works the normal shift, makes the dinner and then is marking books, preparing lessons etc. She does this 5 evenings a week and all day Sunday. The vaste majority of parents, probably like some on here, send their children to school ill-prepared for school life, and expect the teacher to teach them manners, how to use the toilet etc. When she started 30 years ago before the wretched National Curriculum she had a life. Now she doesn't. The young teachers who join the profession last on average five years - they can't hack the crap.
she is obviously a good teacher and does what she is paid to do. I agree National Curriculum nonsense. OFSTED nonsense. OFSTED inspections are worthless they do not see how the school runs at all. Teachers like your wife are to be congratulated and thanked.
Wear flares if you like...
but dont expect to get noticed, especially off shore.
Coastguards to go on strike.
http://ukpress.google.com/article/ALeqM5gUcBlPhICvMfi8u_wm4XLs88Xp7Q

That's where you are very wrong Infamous One. I just understand reality and trying to make demands on an already vulnerable economy is naive, that's all. If teachers had been striking consistantly every year for the last 10 years or more, talking about poor conditions in the classroom, unrealistic targets, over burdened workload etc Then I'd be behind them all the way. But they're not are they? They are saying give us more cash and we'll be quiet.
may be they are all like that conko.....its the bloody rude, ignorant, dont give a toss kids thats the problem, half of them cant be bothered to learn..........bring back the birch to make them pay attention!!!!!!!
It is the NUT not the other Unions. It is the most militant by a long way of the teaching unions. In fact the one my wife belongs to does not permit strikes by its members.
I've said on here many times, I think teachers have a shitty deal, but I don't think that's down to the pay. In my opinion it's the conditions they are expected to teach in and the burdon of the workload they have to cope with. Pay will never improve that. The majority of the UK workforce is going to have a below inflation pay rise.
Unfortunately that is across the public sector, we are told this is part of the Government's plan to fight inflation. However teachers are not underpaid anyway.
I know, I've got a below inflation 'pay rise' as well. Unfortunately there isn't really a union that represents my profession.
Why do people assume they should get a pay rise every year? If I'm not happy with what I'm getting paid, then I'll look for another job
PS I'm at a loss as to how much **** that post of yours was. You should think before you post, you really should. You can enjoy your job, believe that you're making a difference, want to do it, but still believe you should be paid more. "look for another job" - words fail me.
