Thank goodness everyone's okay. It could've been much, much worse.

I have to say that I would consider The Reds to have resigned from the EFL if they had used an electric bus to get them to matches. Or, maybe, they were so awash with money that they could afford to hire three buses (and leave two to recharge on the way) to travel to Exeyer and back

You put it far more eloquently than me. I was just going to say that it's fear mongering b011ocks.

No, it wasn't. One of the pictures circulating shows the back of the bus and it's exposed combustion engine.

Are there even any electric long distance coaches on the road? I know local buses are easily recharged back at the bus station (in Harrogate they are) but surely they can’t do a 300 mile trip on one charge?

This came from a very reputable source last night. One of the Laundry workers received a phone call from the kit man whilst he was standing on the hard-shoulder watching the coach burn. ‘Don’t bother coming in tomorrow morning there ‘s no kit to wash’ With it being a long-distance trip all the kit, accessories etc, we’re taken on the coach, usually it all travels in a van.

They should have reverted to the brown kit; the scorch marks wouldn't have been so obvious then.

As far as I'm aware no there aren't. We looked into weight pulling, chargeable EVs in my old job and they were some distance away from being feasible. The only electric buses I'm aware of are the ones on wires in some cities that have been around for decades.

98% of the electric busses in the world are in China. After that, Bogota Colombia is the place with the most.

To put perspective on it, Europe had 8500 in 2021 and China had over 420,000!! There are around 1,000 in London.

No but they are in the pipeline. There are both battery range, infrastructure and cost issues. A trip to Exeter would need a 600 mile range unless there are chargers on site to pump enough leccy into the battery for the return journey. On top of that your are looking upwards of 350k to buy a decent one.

That's actually really cool. No surprise to see China leading the way on carbon reduction. Doesn't fit well with the right wing argument that there's no point meeting carbon emission goals because China aren't doing anything!

A quick read tells me that they still lack the range for long distance use. Which aligns with our research on large vehicles and trailer-pulling vehicles.

TBF, I've seen it a couple of times this summer and I knew it was a local firm but couldn't remember which one.

Neither does the inconvenient fact that China's grid is around 45% renewable, broadly in line with our own, and they have more installed wind power than any other country in the world. Yes they have a lot of coal fired power stations as well, that is undeniable, but to be fair, it is a very big place with an awful lot of people to service. But they are undoubtedly moving in the right direction. They certainly aren't doing nothing, as some people would suggest.
