Burns... His attributes as far as I can see are: 1) He is disciplined as TMFDM said - he doesn't get caught out of position and holds his role well. 2) He reads the game well - intercepts play regularly. 3) His short passing is pretty good, a lot better than Wroe's anyway. 4) He can strike a ball when he gets chance - unlike Wroe. 5) He is tough, isn't afraid to tackle, and will jump for headers and put himself about - again unlike Wroe.
RE: it's good to have opinions... Agree with the McPhail opinion but Shukes was player of the year and 8 goals, several assists and hit sheer willingness to give 100% meant in my view he was a worthy winner.
RE: all fit midfielders i chose Right okay... well if he's fully fit, I'd probably have him and McPhail in the middle then, but I still don't think Burns is rubbish. The fact you have Wroe on the bench and Burns not even in the 16 shows you prefer Wroe. Burns was excellent against Leeds, without doubt.
all fur and no knickers 3 of them can't tackle so you're relying on WHO exactly to get the ball to our 3 dynamic creatives? (ahhh, Beckenbauer strolls out of defence, lays it to McPhail, who lofts one over the full back for Shuker to latch onto...) I'll predict here and now we'll not see all 3 of them start. Maybe all 3 on the pitch as we chase a game, and maybe not even then.
Nope sorry... 3-1 to Burns... (Bristol City away in 03/04, and Blackpool home and Swindon away last season), Wroe has scored once - at Stockport in 03/04.
RE: Burns... Hes not quick enough to get out of position. He can pass 10 yards yes but he rarely ever wins the ball to use it. Yes he can strike a ball but you still havent said who your prefered midfield combination would be. Honestly JT, if Burns plays on Sat count his successful takles and passes and we can then continue the debate.
RE: Burns... I've better things to do than to count Burnsie's passes mate! My midfield line-up - you mean when everyone's fit or on Saturday?
RE: Nope sorry... Aye you must be... the only 'fact' you've stated is wrong, so obviously everything else is correct!
set up 6 goals in open play (true) so, about 1 in 7 games. Scored 8, fair enough. Scored about once tho inbetween Bristol Home and February (by which time we were out of EVERYTHING). And gets free range to roam. Law of averages says some will drop for you. POTY was laughable. Better than Michael Chopra? Ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaa. Who would YOU rather in our team? "It doesn't matter cos Nads will get 30 and Hayes will chip in another 25".
remind me tomorrow... I'll take notes on Burns' contribution. Do they not have a sound link to the disabled stand?
RE: Nope sorry... You didn't use the word 'fact'... but if you state a number of goals - something which is measured, then that is essentially a factual statement, whereas discussing whether Burns can pass cannot be proved in an argument!
RE: set up 6 goals in open play (true) I hope they do and that we are celebrating at the end of the season. My vote was for Chopra I just stated that Shukers won POTY and gave some possible reasons for that.
RE: Burns... Well I haven't seen Howard or Kell play, well maybe Howard once but I didn't notice him... But I'd probably say: RM: Shuker CM: Kell (Burns for now) CM: McPhail LM: Howard (Williams for now)
RE: Nope sorry... It can because you can say he completed 5 passes in the game and A N OTHER completed 35 passes in the game, therefore this can equally be measured. Like I said you prefer Burns, fair enough I wont knock anyone for expressing their preference. Like I said neither Burns or Wroe would get im my first choice 16 when everyone is fit. One of our best tacklers is Tonge and he would be in my team ahead of both those 2.
RE: Nope sorry... Yes but we don't have stats on his passing to hand... and number of passes completed in a game doesn't mean you're a good or bad passer alone. The only stats we've compared is goals, as you said Wroe's more likely to score - well the facts (ie, no. of goals scored) disagree. You are entitled to your opinion of course mate, I'm just trying to see where you're coming from
