I read that quite often so I acknowledge it must hold some weight. We weren’t great to watch last year, but we were much more competitive and got better results. So it depends how you gauge improvement I suppose. Personally, I prefer results. At this stage last year we had 56 points and sat 4th. We’d lost just 6 times and had a +24 goal difference. The regular side up to that point: Roberts, O’Keeffe, Williams, de Gevigney, McCart, Cadden, Kane, Styles, Phillips, Cole, McAtee. We are now 10th on 43 points having lost 11 games with a +1 goal difference. The regular side up to this point: Killip, O’Keeffe, de Gevigney, Roberts, Earl, Gent, Connell, Russell, Phillips, DKD, Humphrys. Obviously, the wheels fell off across the last couple of months of last season. We can’t afford a similar run this time around, I know that much. Strange to look back and note that once Styles and McCart (not rated by fans) moved on and Earl and Connell came in after signing/returning to fitness the form suffered. I’ve also just remembered the Horsham game. My Lord. Not been a fun time recently has it?
In the summer we lost liam Roberts, kane, Cole, j Williams, cadden all would get in this side so in terms of players we have regressed.
Dion Charles is 13 games without a goal, 5 since signing for them. Our defence would never have a better chance of a clean sheet. Defensively themselves they have gone down hill since selling Helik. They have lost leadership. His sale halfway through the season reminds me of them selling Marcus Stewart to Ipswich halfway through the season when going for promotion.
got to say I prefer a 120mile journey home more so if we have won - rather than how we have performed. I have left more games early this season due to us not even competing compared to last and there’s still a fair proportion of games left to play.
Here's hoping we pick up again. I believe the season we recruited Benson , Oulare and Iseka to be a defining moment for our downturn. Financially this negatively impacted on the ensuing seasons as well and I am still not sure that we are out of it fully yet. Add in a few more bad decisions and here we are. Anyway chin up.
They especially cole top scorer 2 season on trot and way folk carried on about him was like he had been with there Mrs. All better than the players in there positions now that's not even debatable, it's fact. Although I do think o keffe is a decent player.
The entertainment factor started off much better under Clarke but with the odd exception we have now reverted back to Collinsball without the results. I’m not yet at the stage I was last season of looking for literally any excuse not to go to Oakwell so progress albeit minor from my point of view.
I think it could be argued it was a water shed moment, but what has actually compounded it has been the current ownership refusing bids and letting so many contracts run down so we get nil value. Letting all of Cadden, Kane, Cole and Williams leave for nothing wasn't far off as incompetent as our best transfer window ever.
Problem is you can't put a gun to anyone's head and make them sign. Cole was never going to sign after the amount of stick he got from fans even put it in his parting statement. All of those except kane came for nothing and left for nothing.
It was Benson is still one of the biggest earners nearly 4 years he's been picking up a wage. Iseka was on a good crack not sure of contract length. Oulare was on a 2/3 year deal at apparently over 10k a week. It did set the club back years.
They could of course have been the bees knees and we could still be a Championship club. It was unfortunate with Benson cos you never know how new recruits will fair fitness wise. However, issues around Oulare and Iseka could have been forseen. I only blame one man and he is no longer here to influence. Currently our rudder doesn't seem capable of turning the ship around so I think we are hoping for a change in tide.
Yep both Kane and Cole got some unwarranted stick at times, heard we'd offered both significantly less on new deals that probably didn't do us any favours. Kane no doubt will have an extra 20% in the tank Saturday, Wouldn't put it past him to put a 25 yarder into top corner, ponty end, can just see it
For me one lone striker is one of the dumbest ideas anyone came up with in football . Imho strikers should hunt in pairs and feed off each other .
I heard the same about kane also that he wanted to stay at one point but we offered less than what he was already on. Some on here used to say coles a decent league one striker but no good in the championship. Which was irrelevant anyway. I look at the strikers we have now and think we'll not one has got close to 10 goals maybe they would score in league 2.
