I was thinking more of height and winning some aerial ball. He can tackle too. It's like Dwarfsville in our CM without Etuhu.
It hasn't worked this season. We have let most of our goals in with a 4 haven't we? If we do play a 4 it has to be with defensive full backs, not JOB or RNL.
If JOB and/or Kennedy are filling left back/wing back roles then we'll concede more than one imo. Far too weak at back
3-5-2 . GK: Steele RWB: Wiseman (c) RCH: Hassell CH: M'Voto LCH: McNulty LWB: Noble-Lazarus LCM: Perkins RCM: Etuhu AM: Mellis CF: O'Grady ST: Dagnall . O'Brien, Dawson, Digby, Jennings, Scotland, Pedersen, Rose. . As you can tell, this is the squad I would select.. not Flicker. No sub keeper because Bob is better than Pollitt, Alnwick and Dibble.
I remember for the Wolves game last season we switched to 4-3-3 after we sold Stonesy. I think with the players we have that could really work. We can't keep playing JOB at RB because we are getting raped down that side far too often. This is a team based on players playing in their right positions taking into account injuries. Steele Wiseman M'Voto McNulty Kennedy JOB Dawson Mellis Pederson COGba Cywka Drop to 4-5-1 in defence. In attack, bring the FBs forward and let Dawson drop deep to cover. Football's piss easy.
JOB been playing as a wing back recently so can give extra cover to the right. Kennedy probably would need extra protection, so could drop Mellis (who has been piss poor so far) for RNL who offers going forward and going back. Change Daws for Perks if fully fit. The wide attackers can then drop to make numbers in midfield when out of position.
I think 4-3-3 could work. The best way to counter Huddersfield's 3-5-2 is to play 3 up front. I don't know if Pedersen can operate from out wide but I could see him and O'Grady interchanging positions since O'Grady often ends up on the left hand side. I don't think it leaves our full backs exposed since Huddersfield's wing back's (including Hammill) will need to track back and won't want to leave 3 on 3 at the back. Steele Wiseman M'Voto McNulty Kennedy Perkins Etuhu Mellis O'Brien O'Grady Pedersen Paterson Vaughan Clayton Hammill Hogg Norwood Carroll Lynch Clarke Gerrard Smithies My only worry is a lack of pace in central defence. McNulty and M'Voto should win everything in the air but if Clayton gets on the ball and picks out a through ball we could be in trouble.
