They have to watch because he will NOT pass the ball. he tried to take someone on under East Stand and lost the ball when there was 2/3 passes on. You can't gamble with him because you just don't know if Barnsley will have the ball in 10 seconds. You will often hear commentators say he automatically runs when he gets the ball because he knows hes got the ability to get the ball to him (when Micheal carrick's got the ball for example). Its the total opposite with him. It doesn't help either because he just literally stands in one spot like some morngy school child until he gets the ball. I'd be very surprised if he doesn't go in January.
He's the best passer of a ball we've got. The only quality displayed in a red shirt yesterday was a couple of his passes and a cross. Except for Cywka's goal of course. It's all about expectations I suppose. Every time Paddy gets the ball he is expected to do something wonderful. Whilst every time Dawson or Perkins get it....
All rubbish as usual. By the way Micheal Carrick would be gash in our team, because no-one would run into space, they would just stand and watch, like they do with a player that can do something.
No it's not. They do make runs because they do it for Mellis. He doesn't pass the ball. he did nothing yesterday again. Off that ball we've got 10 men. He could have picked up there DM but he never did once.
Yes it is, they never make a run when Paddy has the ball, they stand an watch, if they expected him to lose it surely they would be moving into position to cover, but No they just stand and watch and hope he can score another wonder goal! As I said last night against us he would look like Messi, because other teams move to try and create space for the likes of Messi to exploit, here Messi would look just as bad as Paddy.
At least 3 occasions on Boxing Day he floated lovely balls into the box with the outside of his boot. So, once again, my friend you are talking utter ******.
The ball he fired into O'Grady's feet from 25 yards away while the striker was in the box was pure class. Unfortunately Chris couldn't control it, or he was clean through. Worth the admission money alone that pass.
He's a bad apple and needs to go. The difference it made in having 11 men playing as a team rather than 10 as a team & 1 individual once he went off was clear to see. His performance yesterday was pathetic and he was one of the main reasons for the constant pressure on the full backs. It was a clear tactic of Derby for one of the centre backs to play out with the ball & play it in behind our 2 full backs who can't defend, McCourt never once tried to stop them from doing this even though O'Grady was shouting at him to do it several times. I'm surprised O'Grady didn't lose his head with McCourt as he was running his knackers off chasing down the centre backs whilst McCourt strolled about without a care in the world. I think getting shut of him would have a similar effect to when Craig Davies was sold last January and would bring the team together. Having 2 strikers on at the end of the game who were working for the team meant that we put the Derby defence under pressure and they couldn't play out from the back which drew mistakes and help us win the ball back. Hopefully Wilson's seen that McCourt isn't fit to wear the shirt and will get rid.
I thought it was because we scored a goal that was made and finished by an individual, which gave the players awake up call that they could get something from the game and started pressing the ball also aided by the fact Derby got a little bit edgy.
Blimey has he been shagging your missus or something. Still you could just watch Dawson running aimlessly around the field for 90 minutes.
I think your opinion is crazy but I certainly respect your right to have one, even though the 'bad apple' theory is highly questionable. But what value do you end up placing on O'Grady's work ethic when he fails dismally to do the primary thing he's supposed to be in the team to do? Think I'd rather have a lazy striker who could actually finish reliably to be honest. But that's just my opinion. Wouldn't rule out O'Grady rather than McCourt being out in the cold once Danny gets his feet properly under the table.
When it comes to the likes of Dawson, Kennedy & Wiseman. I think they're league one players, whilst they're playing poorly they're giving there all and in my opinion it's the manager that signed them's fault. McCourt disgusts me because he's got bags of talent but is pissing it up the wall because he simply won't work. I'd do anything to be that talented at football. I think people are beginning to realise how much of a waste of space he is judging by the reaction to him been substituted yesterday. O'Grady won't be going anywhere, he's exactly what we need upfront. He showed in the last 30 minutes when he had some proper support that he's more than capable. Fair enough his miss was a shocker but I imagine he's low on confidence right now. The main thing is once we had 11 players playing as a team we looked a threat and started making chances against the form side in the league. If we can do that against Derby we can make chances against anyone in this league and eventually the goals will come. That last half hour has given me a bit of hope.
We'll see. English football has been turned into a turgid mediocrity where 'work-rate' and 'putting a shift in' are valued above all else. Is it any wonder that the 'English' Premier League is stuffed full of foreigners, or that our so-called 'world-class' players (Rooney et al) look so poor when put on a bigger stage? Absolutely the only pleasure I've had watching Barnsley this season has been Paddy McCourt but, as you say, he doesn't graft for 90 minutes so he can't be any good.
McCourt was average yesterday though still better than some of his colleagues. We perked up because we scored a wonder goal and Derby started to bottle it.
Other than the Huddersfield match where we played the formation we should be playing, and triumphed after playing well for most of the 90 minutes, our other two victories (pathetic, that) came about thanks in no small part to the genius of Paddy McCourt. Middlesbrough would/could/should have beaten us, but that dream goal he scored turned the tide. Then, at Brighton, he nearly eclipsed that dream goal. It's par for the course with Paddy that he'll often look ordinary, sometimes a waste of a shirt. But he is capable of winning a game all by himself. It'll be a sad day indeed if he leaves the club.
You seem to be missing my point. Whether you are talented or not you have to work as a team or you won't win games. I don't value work rate above all else but without it you don't win anything. There's plenty of examples but a great one right now is Ruiz and Berbatov at Fulham. Even though they've got workhorses in Sidwell and Parker in the middle they aren't winning enough games because they've got talented players who aren't working for the team in front of them. It's a similar scenario to ourselves with McCourt. You need a team fully committed to working for one another if you're going to win games in this league as shown by us from January to May 2013. Over the last few years we've seen a Man Utd side compete and more often that not finish above City & Chelsea despite having a lot weaker team with less skilful players in it but they were all willing to work for one another. I'd much rather see talented players like Mellis & Cwyka who are willing to work play rather than someone like McCourt who relies on talent alone. There seems to be this idea on this forum that you have to be either talented or hard working and not both, that's nonsense. Maybe if we'd of gone with a smaller squad but full of players who have both then we'd be in a much better position.
