No outstanding players in the derby side for me yesterday yet the inter-play was where I wish barnsley were, played really well together as a unit. I think barnsley have done that about a dozen times in the last 2 seasons :(

Danny will work out how to get the best out of him, i think its players like Mellis, Etuhu and Obrien that might be leaving the club.

I remember Paddy tackling Reda Johnson at Oakwell in the build up to Pedersen scoring his last goal.

Absolute myth that he/Mellis/Butterfield (when he was here) never tackle, or 'work hard'.

And as so often repeated on here, the day that I call for Paddy to track back and 'get stuck in' all the time (for the ******* team?) will be the day I see David Perkins or Kelvin Etuhu dribble past players and score, or at least create a goal. 18 months and counting for Kelvin. Perkins, last time he created a goal was May the 4th. Over a year since he scored one.

    Think on.

We've had talented and hard working players. They're usually the ones we lose to bigger/better clubs.

Drinkwater, Stones, Butterfield in recent years. But I clearly remember folk telling me Drinkwater couldn't score/create etc. And plenty told me Butterfield never worked/tackled. Even when I showed them he was top of the list for successful tackles completed.

Point being, we get players who marry talent with application, we do better yes. But we then have to sell/lose them. Because we're Barnsley FC.

Didn't sell redders for a few seasons I seem to recall? Better than any mentioned... ;)

I've got to say anybody who said Butterfield & Drinkwater weren't team players are absolute idiots.

They always wanted the ball and were willing to help there team mates out. If we aren't on top McCourt goes into hiding, I'm happy for us to bring through players that go on to leave us for more money / bigger clubs it means we're doing something right and can reinvest the money.

Redders was basically a combined version of Drinkwater and Butterfield. Some player.

Hignett was like Paddy McCourt on Paddy's best day.

We expect so little from most of our midfielders that a couple of good passes can get them man of the match. I think over the next 6 months there will be a clearout of our midfielders, Wilson wont be fooled by people that run around a lot but dont actually do anything its players like these that get managers sacked.

Unfortunately, we lost the BBS archive, otherwise I'd point you in the direction of some great opinions on Butterfield, Drinkwater etc. Or my own attack on Vaz Te after we lost at Pompey, where I said he was Odejayi with a silly haircut.

We all talk *****. Some more than others.

For instance, you want shut of Paddy.... ;)

Having quality doesn't excuse a pathetic work ethic though Jay.

I couldn't disagree more. He's always looking to play someone in with a pass and most of the time the other players are not on his wavelength. Doesn't always come off, but he's always trying to pass the ball.

When the toilers are scoring goals, when the toilers are creating chances for team mates, when the toilers are causing problems for the opposition with their passing & dribbling, then Paddy deserves criticism for not doing his bit when it comes to running around a lot. When was the last time Perkins scored a league goal for us? When was the last time Dawson scored a league goal for us? When was the last time Etuhu scored a league goal for us? When he was here, how many goals did Fox score? When was the last time Perkins created a goalscoring opportunity for a team mate? Or Dawson? Or Etuhu? Or Fox? When was the last time Perkins brought a save from the opposition's goalkeeper? Or Dawson? Or Etuhu? Or Fox? You can add all these totals together and it won't be more than McCourt's total.
How many league games have we won this season without a positive contribution from McCourt, ie actually scoring a goal?
Yeah, Paddy. Run around a lot and you'll be a hero with some. I'm quite convinced if we were given the choice of signing a modern day George Best, or a modern day Carlton Palmer, there's a good many who'd go for the Palmer option!:D

Again, I'm not saying replace McCourt with a 'toiler', I'm saying replace him with someone who has talent & will graft for the team. You don't have to be one or the other.

I'm certain we'll be better off without him & judging from what I read Wilson say about how 'some players are too battle weary' then I think we'll be finding out very soon.

The trouble with that argument is you'll be struggling to find a player as talented as McCourt...never mind a player who's as talented and a grafter as well.

We'll see. I honestly think we could get rid of 7 or 8 players & bring in 2 or 3 quality ones & still have a big enough squad. The current squads a lot bigger than it needs to be.

Any sort of player of that quality would cost 5 to 10 million in today's ridiculous market so not sure where the people who think we could attract that sort of player think we will find that sort of money. Sone of our fans live on a different planet.

The only pass he regularly turns down is to Kennedy in acres of space ....... hmmm, good choice Paddy, I'd rather see you take the 7 men on instead cos more chance of a positive outcome

If you think a player of McCourt's 'quality' who would work a bit harder is worth 5-10 million it's you that's living on another planet.

He'll be gone in January & we'll be a better side for it, wait & see.

Similar but better players who have played in the championship recently Zaha and Traarabt both much better than McCourt though neither can tackle or offers much defensively. Chris Eagles a player who creates and tracks well out of our price range. Look at a player like Gauld at Dundee. He shows lots of talent and promise but has played very few games. The only way we can afford that sort of player is to pick one up from abroad depends what international contacts we have. Domestic prices are crazy for that sort of player. Premiership teams Hoover them up and pay ridiculous money to have them in the reserve reserve team. The reason our midfield is full of honest toilers in Dawson, Perkins and Etuhu or players that can play but not tackle or track back in Mellis and McCourt is because we can't afford them.
