RE: Whatever you do Restoring to an earlier date isn't a big thing mate. Sometimes helps to see what's gone wrong.
Might be onto something there mate. I remember being nattered by Windows just before it crashed. It's just restoring to Jan 1st, taking ages about it. I'll let you know how I get on.

God Bless Microsoft Windows is **** JuttyP knows his stuff, hopefully he''ll point you in the right direction
RE: God Bless Microsoft Were it not for Windows Media DRM on nigh on fecking everything I'd bin it completely.
But apart from getting the Virgin highlights and watching stuff on BBC iPlayer, I use Linux almost exclusively now.
Unfortunately Microsoft will keep paying their EU fines (another £600 million slapped on the other day) for anticompetitive behaviour rather than licence aspects of their code to other providers. They are shrewd enough to realise that, with Vista so unpopular amongst its enforced user base, doing so would be the beginning of the end for Windows.

RE: God Bless Microsoft Do use wireless internet? I have Ubuntu installed but could never get wireless networking or the internet to work.
RE: God Bless Microsoft I don't, mine's wired and worked straight out of the box.
Unfortunately, hardware support for Ubuntu could be better. Hardware manufacturers are not keen on making drivers under an open-source model which means a lot of Linux drivers are 3rd party. These tend to only get developed for more popular hardware, so if your wireless card has a rare chipset you could be scuppered.
The only thing I haven't got working (yet) is my scanner. Still need Windows for that but only use it once in a blue moon.

RE: Might be onto something there mate. You probably need to delete the offending updates as well (when in safe mode). This happened to me a couple of months ago.
