Very similar to Cornwall - always raining. But if you do get good weather, as others have said, it's a great area to visit.
Not sure if still is but was second to Blackpool for stag parties. Lovely part of country though either way.
7 miles of flat beach not far away. Pendine. Where land speed records have been done. Museum by the entrance. You can park on the beach. Genuine story. Workmate went on holiday and had the private use of a company vehicle. parked on it one day. Left it too late lol. Tide came in afore he realised. And It finished up submerged. It was taken on the back of a transporter all the way back to north yorkshire. No one lets him live it down.
On the same topic of burglary. We put the dog in kennels when we went on holiday. Got back and we had been burgled. In the Chronicle a few months later. Those who ran the kennels were in possession of stolen goods. Having given details to burglar friends of theirs when people were away. . Ctuns.
Nice place, I've stayed at Kiln Park (20 or so years ago, my kids ranged from 8 to 14) in a folding camper (sort of trailer tent). Lovely walk over the railway line and across the golf course to the beach or alongside the railway line into the town. Lovely places nearby like Saundersfoot and St Davids. Highly recommended by me, probably influenced by the fantastic weather we had....
I can recommend the nearby little seaside village of Manorbier, which has a castle you can visit and a nice beach. The coast path from there is really scenic in both directions. Barafundel Bay won the Best UK Beach award some years ago. Lovely scenery all around Pembrokeshire.
Whilst we’re on the topic of South Wales - Barry / Barry Island Is it as portrayed in Gavin & Stacey?! Playing Walking football down there in April and will probably need a hotel for 2 nights. Any tips??
Barry Island - you will be pleasantly surprised -- LUSH Beach and Pleasure Land - although not a lot OCCURRING there in April - but Nessa's Tattoo studio may be open - TIDY!
It was the ones at Shafton probably 30yrs ago. Don't know if it's still there. but if it is, I'm guessing new owners by now. Big piece in the Chronicle at the time. As far as looking after the dog I would have recommended em. He came back full of life. unlike 1 or 2 more local ones we'd tried.
We were once walking the coastal path and called in to the pub in Manorbier during a downpour. After a couple of pints I stoically carried on walking to Tenby, Mrs G&tB's caught the bus back.
If you do go, and you"re in no hurry to get home on the last day, I suggest driving home via the coast road as far as Aberystwyth ( don't stop there however, it's 5hite), then home across central Wales, Shropshire etc. Very scenic.
I really liked Shropshire, another new find last year. Ludlow, Leaminster, the black and white trail, some lovely areas round there. Wouldn't be surprised if I see my days out living round that neck of the woods.
