My God have I enjoyed reading this thread Full of realism, common sense, faith and support all rolled into one. Last season was one of the most memorable I have ever known, in fact probably capped only by the prem promotion season and the prem season itself. We are a small club doing well to attract the players we do. Get behind them and enjoy the season.
but they still moaned then ( mind you there was a reason then at times) its never been any different. Although Ive got to say I do'nt get this attitude that AFTER a game or in discussion on here you can't say anything other than positive stuff without getting abuse as much as some do moan excessiveley others remind me of kids with their fingers in their ears and their eyes screwed shut because they do'nt want to hear the bad stuff.
Too right Nothing wrong with critiscism, in fact I reckon most players and managers expect it if they perform badly. What annoys me is the mindless abuse. For example, I once saw a post calling the entire England cricket team "useless moronic *******" because they lost a cricket match. On this page there is a post which calls Simon Davey a "clueless ******". Surely we can criticise without resorting to personal abuse and insults. I've met Simon Davey - to me he is a decent bloke who gave up his time to chat. Others have met him, and don't like him. That's the same in life in general when you meet people, because we are all different. He is neither clueless nor is he a ******. He shouldn't play Bobby Hassell in midfield though
The problem as I see it is, that posts often start as criticism but soon get very personal if someone disagrees. Differing opinions are fine but personal insults aren't and it's not just us younger ones that get personal.
Wuzbrer41.............................what a load of ***** !!! In a nutshell you are saying - we are a small town club and we never had nowt and we dunt want nowt now WHAT A LOAD OF ***** THAT IS !!!!!!!!!!!!! Firstly, a town of 230,000 in the middle of other huge connerbations int really a small town FFS And secondly if you lived your life has having had nowt and so dont expect much, then you are typical of many Barnsley people and their low aspirations in life. If Pat Cryne thought the same as you.........he wouldn't have enough money to save the corner shop never mind a football club. My thoughts are this.................we are as big as Bolton, Blackburn and bigger than Fulham and Wigan....I WANT PREMEIRSHIP football at the WELL and I want it next season And if I want to complain about things if this dosent happen i will do it on here or in the pub or in the street BUT NEVER will I shout down the players or the manager while inside the WELL
RE: The problem as I see it is, thats my point Laura some fowk on here just dont get the debate thing its straight into the insults if they do'nt agree
You have a good argument And you didn't really insult anybody, although I'm sure you could have avoided the use of the word "*****". You have a point of view which has some merits. My point is that we can all have our different opinions without having to accept abuse or ridicule from others for them.
I never really insult anybody............. I tell them that they are talking rubbish...........I admit I say this regularly to some on here But very very rarely do I call people insulting names.........I've been posting years and there are 3 times that I can recall when I have lost mi temper on here But the lead post of this thread is garbage............and it is indicative of why people move away from Barnsley and why we are a relatively poor town never had nowt, dunt want owt.........this way of thinking sends me nuts
Agree, and disagree As far as I know you are wrong about people moving away from Barnsley. In fact I seem to remember that it was one of the towns with the lowest rate of people leaving in the entire UK. As you may know I moved away myself, to Hamburg in Germany. Was back inside 3 years, homesick, missed this fantastic town. Was talking to a guy last night from South Africa who moved here 13 years ago with no pre-conceived ideas. He told me he would never live anywhere else in the UK apart from Barnsley. He will be at Oakwell this afternoon with his wife and son, along with 6 other friends, all originally from South Africa and all Barnsley fans now. I do agree though that some Barnsley folk lack ambition. However, there are others (like Mr Cryne) who compensate. I'm one of them myself. So are you. And I totally agree that you don't insult people regardless of opinions. Respect to you for that.
RE: The problem as I see it is, That's probably because they aren't clever enough to sustain an argument/debate, without resorting to abuse of some kind.
