Genuine question, no attitude or anything, but what would you have done today? I thought we played well first half. Usual mistakes from players at this level, but we played with a high intensity, produced some good football and deservedly went in ahead at the break. Second half Huddersfield come out all guns blazing, as is often the case when a team that's doing well in the league don't play so well first half and find themselves behind. The best Barnsley teams I've ever seen (80-82, 96-98, 15-16) were often put under enormous pressure in the first 20 minutes of the second half. All those teams had players to deal with that, we currently don't. Nwakali and Russell disappeared. They just crumbled. They offered literally nothing. So, what do you do, make a change? Our option today was Benson. I've seen Benson do exactly the same numerous times. He's the same type of player that can look good when we're on the front foot but offers little to nothing when we're under pressure. So what would you have done? Because, to me, it looks like Clarke has got no options at all. We haven't even got a striker and for some reason we keep getting gaslighted that we've signed one. We got told that DKD was a striker FFS! Clarke may or may not be any good, I don't honestly know, but I do know he's got literally no chance with the squad that has been assembled for him.
The first half was everything I want from my team.It also showed me we have some talent in the team as we utterly controlled the game.I'm no coach but the team came out in the second half with no intensity and no drive like we showed up to half time.Once Huddersfield equalised we were like rabbits caught in a cars headlights. I'm getting fed up of the constant he hasn't been backed, absolute rubbish. Most who say that it's because we didn't sign x y z or any of the fancy names out there. In all my time watching Barnsley I've only called for one manager sacking and that was Spackman The way I felt after last week and today It might be time to make a call.
Pines, Earl, Humphrys, Rodrigues, Gent, Benson are nowhere near top 6, there's question marks further down the squad too although injured Watters will be lucky to pick up another club at this level. We're not good enough in both boxes, we're miles off
Club broke from the board poor coach poor players n another game where can't even get miniature scoreboard to work
Pines and Earl were in top 6 though last season. So they can do it. Gent is our sub LWB currently. Humphrys top scored for Wigan in L1 last season, he's more than capable and Benson doesn't play. He's only made bench today cos we've a few out in that position. If connell and Phillips are available, he's not even on bench so mentioning him is irrelevant. Rodrigues is just poor recruitment for sure. Which is our major issue, but there's enough besides him to be higher up than we are. Clarke is just another one of the poor recruitment examples. Like Rodrigues
Agree, it’s about mentality and fighting spirit. Our Poundland manager has a Poundland mentality and it shows. Mentally he’d already lost against Duff and then it becomes game over.
I don't disagree about DC being culpable I just think we're spineless on the whole. We have moments in matches but that's all it is. The mental toughness of this squad too, jesus Pines, MDG...both awful at defending..MDG can bring the ball forwards well, but can't do the job he's paid to do. Earl at times looks like a player but others he's just as bad. Collectively they terrify me. Good coaching might help but it won't stop Pines letting the ball bounce all the time or MDGs poor positioning and lack of pace seeing him caught out. Then the wing backs...at times whoever is there looks decent but they're so predictable and more often than not add very little to our play Midfield...no one can tackle, or break up play, no one can beat a man, no one bar Nwakali can pick out a pass, and they're all dreadfully slow. When we're under pressure you want your midfield to take the game by the scruff of the neck, or when we're winning for them to control the game. Neither happens In terms of attackers, I like DKD, as I do Phillips but both can be pretty ineffective at times. Humphrys can **** off, he's an absolute waste of a shirt. So lazy And we have no actual strikers I blame the lot. Sormaz for overseeing such abysmal transfer windows, DC for his weird decision making, and inability to turn games around or make us hard to beat and the squad for many of the points above
No, I work and live here and can see them lining up to crow. My response, we are rubbish…but you ain’t much better!
Problem is Brian we've seen this all too often, we can knock the ball about and look pleasing for spells but 9 times out of 10 it comes to very little impact at the top end of the pitch, we've taken 5 pts from 30 against top 6 opponents, we are a mid table side. Had John Russell not gambled today and kept running we wouldn't have scored, we created nothing in 2nd half we can't even put on a 75 min performance let alone 90. Duff made the change with Charles going off for Koroma and we didn't cope when they started the 2nd half 10 yards higher up as a team.
I think you 100% correct Brian, but don’t get soft again and change your mind like last week(joking mate), one of problems I have with Clarke is that he claims to be proper man manager but yet he can’t motivate his team to keep going when the going gets tough, he just talks the talk for me I am afraid. It’s okay saying after defeats like last week that he his to blame but he doesn’t find a way to counteract happenings on pitch when we are up against it. I said it last week and I will say it again, it’s worrying times when such as you lose your positivity mate.
A lot you say here is spot on. But I still standby the fact we have enough here to be better than we are seeing. Mladen and recr could be far better. But the majority of what we have now is better than where we are now. We aren't even close to playoffs.
One of the most bipolar fan bases going, Half time boos and Duff out to 60 mins eee iii eee I oo up the football here we go, weird bunch
How is that bipolar? That’s just a standard fan reaction to a football game. At half time they were losing to a terrible team with just 4 wins at home all season. At 60 minutes they’d turned it around. Hardly strange behaviour…
2nd half, they’d had a rocket at half time, came out firing and we had no idea how to deal with them, they got their 2 goals and then packed in, dropped it back into second gear and still we couldn’t lay a glove on them. They just did what they had to to get in front, and then coasted. If that had been us 2-1 up against ANY other team in this awful league we’d have been defending deep and last 10 minutes we’d have been completely back against the wall last ditch defending. As it was we barely made it anywhere near their box and in fact last 5 minutes they had the ball down near our corner flag. As bad a half we’ve played all year.
