Great post and replies , makes a refreshing change for people to aire their feelings without dissing others . Whilst I have a meh feeling for football in general I still have a sense of excitement for the new season as far as BFC goes . Hated last season when we were going into games expecting to lose but loved it when we didn’t . Hopefully next season we get into winning ways which imo will bring back that enthusiasm and generates the atmospheres of Wigan away and Crewe in playoffs and of course the Wembley trips and takes it into the championship as that brilliant first half of season. Thing is with Championship if your struggling it’s a very unforgiving league and if your going into games expecting to lose and more than likely end up losing as we did last season it really beats the **** out of you . The least I’d want if we got promotion (cos whatever others say o think we are more than s LG 1 club) is a mid table team but capable of beating and matching the top teams in the division which we have done in previous seasons.
Not read all of this, however, I think we shouldn't underestimate the impact of Mr Cryne's passing on the day to day running of the place. Whilst the narrative was always he was quite hands off, I can't help but think that is not true considering when you consider the things that have come out over the last few years. He may have been a bit stand offish but it seems these last 4/5 years especially he's been pretty ever present and involved in everything. His comments on scoreboard for example, the reference to his impact on players etc. I think he was a figurehead & ran the place from behind the scenes, not the cheque signer previously spoken of. When you take that figurehead/decision maker away from any business/group, things take time to adjust. Add in the replacement is an inexperienced CEO (who I've heard spends a lot of time away from Oakwell) and the new Board are again very absent you're left with James Cryne who whilst is still involved his role is seemingly not that of main gaffer/decision maker. Every business needs a leader. Most businesses need more than one. Right now, it feels like we're floating. For example - who is responsible for our pre season schedule? Who is responsible for appointing the manager? Who is responsible for our retained list? I know Hecky before he left did lots that a Head Coach wouldn't be expected to (you've only got to look at the CEO/Brown debacle to see that) - who is now picking up all that stuff? With Mansford, you had someone that got it & will have worked closely with Patrick to drive us forward. Didn't happen straight away but you could see the strategy of engagement from day 1. That helped. I've just got this horrible feeling that things will get worse before they get better.
