RE: bomfest

So despite a deliberately misleading statement that "Barnsley tax payers" are funding Bomfest have you been able to substantiate your allegations.

Regardless of where any money comes from....

....it does seem to be a crying shame that a festival designed to promote original Barnsley music is clearly not doing this. I've a lot of time for Pat of the X-Rippers he works tirelessly for the X-Rippers, James Cannon and other local talent, if he thinks there's something wrong I'm inclined to believe him.

The main point of the OP was bang on regardless of any embelishment or not.

the main point of the OP was that Barnsley Tax Payers funded BOMfest....that was factually incorrect....

    RE: £10

So it is funded by us - the taxpayer.

I'd like to bring the question of false advertisement into this. Barnsley music? Doesnt sound like it.

BMBC have given them money in the past

The Art Council have contributed over the years and is funded by the tax payer including people from Barnsley

My first comment said 'Barnsley tax payers fund this festival to promote the local music scene'

After filtering through a few people brains they read this as 'Barnsley Council tax payers entirely fund this festival to promote the local music scene'

I've never once complained about them receiving funding as the BOMfest has been a good thing for local bands over the years, i supported every one so far and have enjoyed them. In the past i've done some printing for them, gave away free advertising in the Soundbites Mag we use to produce, let BOm members hand flyers out at M-Fest and advertise the fest on stage, i'm always trying to help some of my mates that are involved with BOM. But this year will be the first year myself and a lot of my mates won't be attending.

No idea. Definitely not at work, though. Honest.

SRA, The Harringtons and Seventh Son...

All main stage material, without a doubt. I'd suggest all three of them would pull a bigger crowd than Gaia (who?) in town. Can definitely see why local bands would have an issue with the way it's been organised.

Is it still run by that scruffy ****?

If so, he is a w.nker.

Can't believe they've not put Harringtons & Glass Youth on the main stage. Looks like they're catering for the more 'mature' audience rather than having a mix on the main stage.

Was considering going but I don't think it's worth it.

Not a band I'm familiar with, but it does seem to be hiding Barnsley bands away in a corner. Not on.

    Senser

Is this the same Senser that were NME darlings about 17 years ago? I seem to remember buying "The Key" in about 1993.

Are they from Tarn or summat?

RE: Glass Youth's new single 'Run' is out on 6th July....

They're well liked in the media due to winning various battle of the bands comps, played Glasto twice, T4 on the Beach as well as quite a lot of TV coverage on Mobile Acts Unsigned on E4/ch4.
Could well be a charting band by the time they get to play in that tent in Silkstone!

I read the main point being....

...that the BOM festival did not actually promote local bands.

    Correct

I've never had a problem with them getting help from various places as long as it was used to promote Barnsley Original Music
