It would seem that BMBC HAS put money in before Not neccesarily THIS year, but maybe they were persuaded to help out on the original premise that that festival was going to be promoting local bands / music. By the looks of things, the organisers now have a different agenda. If so, that's a shame...
Good stuff Not a fan of the x-rippers (nor of 7th son for that matter) but I think they've got that spot on. I cant see a problem in bringing in a headline band (nor a few guest acts) from elsewhere to attract a larger wider audience. However I cant see any reason why the bulk of the main stage acts are not BOM. I'm sure there's enough talent about. The way the gig is being structured stinks. I would have thought they could look elsewhere other than the unimpressive senser too.
RE: BOMfest i think the best response to this would be for anyone that attends to spend the day in the tent with the local bands on. simples
FAO Fatty What utter rubbish. So by the same token "Barnsley Tax payers" fund Sheffield Wednesday because some of them attend Hillsborough. Some people who attend BOMfest may not even be tax payers (students). You are trying to back peddle by changing the theme of your original post. I wouldnt have responded had your argument been solely based on Barnsley Bands and Bomfest, I responded because you were trying to insinuate BMBC AKA Barnsley tax payers funded it which in my view was mischief making. Can you also confirm you are involved in a rival festival...?
If the BMBC gave them money at some point in the past, then it has been funded by taxpayers hasn't it? I'm a bit confused by your arguing on the matter, isn't the main point being made that Barnsley bands of which the festival is supposed to be about, are being tucked away from the main stage in a tent? That's all I'm getting from it.
"We, the Barnsley tax payers fund this festival to promote the local music scene" Is a bit different to it was funded partially by BMBC once several years ago and is not only partially funded by the arts council which in turn is funded by taxes from all over the country
RE: FAO Fatty Barnsley Tax Payers doesn't mean Barnsley Council Tax Payers, if it did i would have put that. Barnsley people pay all sorts of tax, VAT, Income, Fuel etc etc etc. Please try and read what i write because you're reading all sorts of crap into the posts, If you read my other posts it tells you i've helped BOM out before and attend every year, i run 'Burn Down the Disco' at Lucorum on Fridays, i help did help run M-Fest, i help do Charity gigs. This has nothing to do with me being against what's happening, i don't make anything financially out of music, quite the opposite. I spend hours of my time helping the local music scene and plenty of my own money goes into it. I'LL MAKE IT SIMPLE FOR YOU TO UNDERSTAND I'm a tax payer, everyone in Barnsley is via VAT, Income, Council Tax etc. Some of these taxes have been used by BMBC, Arts Council to help pay for BOMfest because it's a festival to promote Barnsley Original Music and i've always supported that. This year it's supporting local talent by sticking them all in a small tent. I disagree with this.
be honest you're just upset because your burn down the disco nights only have 3 men and their dog in attendance. Sambora told me
RE: "We, the Barnsley tax payers fund this festival to promote the local music scene" So taxpayers in Barnsley DO help to fund it then.
RE: be honest You had a sound argument about BOMfest and Barnsley bands (which I almost agreed with) however you cheapened your argument by saying Barnsley Tax Payers fund it. For Barnsley tax payers read Huddersfield Sheffield Leeds tax payers. Unless you're saying there will be no one there from Sheffield or Huddersfield or Leeds...? And as a Barnsley tax payer I will be funding the Leeds festival in August should I email them and say Leeds bands only...?
To my knowledge all of em but i might be wrong I've just text lead singer to ask him. **THIS TEXT WASN'T FUNDED BY THE TAX PAYERS OF ANYWHERE, IT WAS FULLY FUNDED BY MYSELF**
100% agee DJ Fatty Boy. Why Didnt Spectemur Acendo read the original post in its entirity and if he did he obviously didnt understand it. He talks about bitterness earlier on in this post, well theres only bitterness coming from one direction in my eyes. Ive worked and covered events and gigs with you in the past and hopefully i will continue to do so for a long while to come. As I know that you are a honest hard working fella. I think this is the problem SA as. Your have something he hasnt got. Honest hardworking bones. The barnsley music scene needs people who will put the time in to keep it going. Whether that is promoters, doormen, photographers, soundmen, lighting engineers and the bands themselves. Organisations sticking LOCAL bands in a tent away from the main stage is a kick in the teeth to all the LOCAL bands have worked for. And shows that certain people don't really care about any other bands/people as long as they are happy. I know myself as a music photographer in town that many bands are not happy with playing in the 2nd Tent and feel as LOCAL bands they should be on the main stage as this is BOM (barnsley original Music) Fest. I will not be covering the festival myself because of this.
Leeds Festival is a commercial festival If BOMfest was a totally commercial festival i wouldn't be complaining but it was setup to help local bands and be something for the people of Barnsley to go and see. For this reason they've had funding over the years which i've agreed with. I've never had any funding and never wanted any, but if i had have been helped out i wouldn't have been straying from what the funding has been given to help create. Everything i've ever done in the local music scene has commercial, even this hasn't stopped me in helping out and promoting the Barnsley scene to the best of my abilities.
