Even in Big cities. Strip away the town centre veneer and your average resident of Paige Hall, Beeston or Hounslow isn't much different to dear old Barnsley. I'm proud to be northern, proud to be from. Yorkshire and proud to be from Barnsley. Keep on keeping on. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fans Forum
Although this post has been another opportunity to have a dig most of the people reading this will know what I'm saying here i.e. The tracky wearing baseball cap brigade. Of course I'm proud to be from Barnsley- I go into TARN at least one day per week. Always said - most friendly people I've come across. But no one can argue that at the moment it's horrendous. It's just a huge empty dump.
How many districts the size of Barnsley has just one little Costa in the town centre, and, although I don't eat them, not even a McDonalds? Even the pubs are becoming fewer. It's summer - where can you go to in Barnsley and sit outside in the sunshine at a nice cafe?
So anybody wearing trackies or a baseball cap is dragging the town down? I'd be more inclined to say narrow minded cnuts like you are the ones dragging it down.
One step at a time when it comes to regeneration. Yes walking round Barnsley on a midweek day and it looks a bit like chav central particulularly near the top end of Peel St near the Jobcentre. However the area around the town Hall, Shambles street is very pleasant and the museum in there is excellent as is the Cooper Gallery. The outstanding memory for me though from all theyears I lived in and around Barnsley, and whenever we visit, is the friendly approachable attitude of most of the people. Yep there are the few moronic unemployable idiots but you find these wherever you go. but the overwhelming majority of market traders and people in general are fantastic. Someone mentioned London. Ha! Try talking to a stranger there and they think you are 'special' and you can see them backing off!. Nothing wrong with Barnsley (apart from the climate, the UK traffic and lack of space) and that is from someone who was born in London and moved to Barnsley via Lancashire when I was 13. Here in rural and an unfashionable part of central Italy the people are the same. Friendly, honest and helpful - just like Yorkshire folk. They love their lamb (which is pretty sh*t here. Last Christmas we were in Barnsley and we bought a couple of Barnsley chops from Barkers in the market just to remind me how good Yorkshire lamb is.. Food is fantastic here in Italy but they know nowt when it comes to lamb!
Thought this would have been shelved:- http://www.barnsleychronicle.com/article/council-approve-plans-for-extra-alhambra-cinema-screen
They've been rethinking or remaking Barnsley for the last 15 years . We'll I tell you what I'm glad they aren't doing my extention! Also where's the halo in the sky gone ? Is it still in planning along with the Tuscan Hill village ?
I've seen Labour blamed for a few things bit never people's dress sense!! The changes in the town centre were long overdue in my opinion - whether it's too much all at once is the real issue. Be good when finished- need to endure it for now.
This. I live on the Headrow in Leeds and its great but venture 5 mins in the wrong direction and its 10x worse than owt you'll find in tarn
Love the place warts n all, anyone who asks me where I'm from? Head held high, chest art...... from TARN mate.
It's quite a bizarre planning decision with Cineworld already confirming a state of the art 13 screen cinema, Parkway cinema also say they will stay open.. So we go from having a old style 2 screen cinema to a town with 25 screens. One of them will fail and leave an empty building, we should only have one multiplex in town, it's crazy to think more could work. I think the Parkway will struggle as well unless they evolve into something a bit more like say the Everyman cinemas with their setup. On;y the die-hard old schoolers will end up going there otherwise (not Bruce Willis fans).
I don't believe the Alhambra cinema will go ahead. Those plans were submitted before Cineworld signed up for The Glass Works and BMBC can't refuse an application just because it compromises their own agenda, and even more so when this is only a slight change to the original plan that had already been approved. In addition, a planning application has been submitted by the Alhambra (after this one) to repair the roof that would be replaced if this development was to go ahead - I doubt they'd pay to do this if they've any immediate plans to progress with this development. Which is something they'd need to do to stand any chance of competing with Cineworld. Also, realistically, I can't see Empire Cinemas feeling confident they'd be able to compete in the long term. I completely disagree with the original poster. If we get anything like the proposed tenants it'll all be worth it (see below). I know for certain this is pretty much close to what we'll get, the large Next unit has already been agreed. Yes, it's taking a while - but that's to be expected when it's funded by the council and they're trying to please too many people and not overspend.
just watch this... short term distruption for long term gain. if they can pull this off its going to look amazing
Barnsley's getting a flying Tiger??? I'm genuinely giddy about that. It's all crap you don't need but it's brilliant at the same time. Spent a fortune in the one in Rome. Sent from my WAS-LX1A using Tapatalk
