    No problems Ponty.
It is after all just about opinions. We all have them, no one right and no one wrong, but good to express them.

BTW My opinions are the right ones. LOL ;)

I don't think being happy to help in the Philippines means being brain washed by the government. It's not even a political matter, it's a humane one.

Fvck sake... People saying things like "blame this govt" - its not like helping other countries is a new thing just implemented by this govt is it? All politicians are exactly the same, doesn't matter who sits in No. 10 - policies won't be much different, but yet when it's a Tory the policies are picked and torn apart by Barnsley folk, yet if a labour govt made the same changes, which they could very well do, they'd be completely accepted.

Also, giving to the Philippines, it's not as though the money being sent over there is coming from the hospital budget is it... Think about it, or you'll make yourself look a lovely person.

I don't understand this thread. So what if the Beckhams are only donating to gain publicity? It's better than them not donating at all; it doesn't have to be selfless to benefit the people in the Phillipines. As for people saying we should help our own first, the money isn't coming out of the NHS budget, it's separate money people are donating that they wouldn't have otherwise. It reminds me of the 'They came for the...' (yes, you may invoke Goodwin's Law on me, but I'm talking about it in the context of just because it isn't affecting you, or your street, or your country, it doesn't make it any less important to offer charity). I'm sick of all this 'just because they don't live on the same bit of land as me they are worth less than me' ********.

I'm with you 100%. While no-one is happy when a hospital ward is shut, you have to remember that the people in the Phillipines currently need access to the most basic needs in life (to use Maslow's approach) - they are looking for food and shelter. And there are hundreds of thousand of them. Yes, I feel sorry for the kid in Barnsley who needs an operation to fix a wonky knee (or whatever) who can't have it - I wouldn't want it to be my kid - but to say that you shouldn't donate to people in desperate need of the basics to keep them alive, just because they are thousands of miles away is downright immoral in my mind. And I'm not talking governments here, I'm talking the man on the street. I find it truly sad that people can be so utterly selfish and thoughtless.

BBS in ridiculous thread and post shocker

    I despair sometimes.

What have the Beckhams done wrong? Other than bring the Red Cross the most publicity they've had in a number of years, whilst also raising what will probably be around £50k for the Philippines? Allowing people who would never afford a designer jacket or designer shoes the luxury of buying them, whilst also feeling like they've helped the Philippines?

Negative for negatives sake on her sometimes. A good deed done, money raised, great exposure for a charity, positive vibes from the people involved, the potential for other celebs to follow suit, and the ability for the charity to launch a national scheme and drive awareness for old clothes to be handed in.

The Beckhams are always linked to charity events, and you've no idea what donations they make throughout the year for British causes.

Well said. British people have a tendency to want to pull down successful Brits instead of celebrating what they have done. They do lots for charity, by fame standards have a long marriage and both have been successful in multiple fields. Victoria in Music/Fashion and David in Football and helping to bring us the Olympics.

Too right mate. It's easily to be cynical about the celebrity culture and no doubt everything done by famous celebs has a some level of PR angle to it, but nowadays celebrity talks. If the Beckhams had donated £200k privately it would be far less, in the long run, that will be raised by them publicly lending their support to the cause. The reason they are speaking out publicly is not as much for their benefit (like they need any more publicity anyway!) but is more to encourage others to do the same.

Typical BBS attitude though. Someone does something to raise money for less fortunate members of society and get shot down in flames for it!

Absolutely agree. David did the same when signing for p.s.g when he donated his wages to charity and made sure everyone knew. He didn't mention the fact he was making vast amounts in sponsorships associated with the new role though!

His wages were small in comparison and he could have donated money before or after he signed. The fact he donated his wages publicly tells me he was just raising his profile to make even more money and get more recognition in a new country.
