    Number 150

GUNS 'N' ROSES - NOVEMBER RAIN

Axl Rose is a complete one off, let's be fair. He wrote some beauties. He wrote some utter dross. But this monster, with its completely over indulgence is his best song. Clocking over 9 minutes. If it was a cake, it would eat itself. Then Slash takes over for the outro, and everyone's has it.

Forgot to mention, in terms of The Bluetones - Marblehead Johnson > If

    Lyrically at least.

    In my opinion.

I'm depressed about football, so it's back to the countdown.

    NUMBER 149

    THE BEATLES - COME TOGETHER

A sublime piece of stream of Lennon consciousness. Toejam football, wonky finger, mojo filters - I'd love to be on what he was on at the time. Stick it all on an old Chuck Berry riff, and you've got gold.

The countdown continues. I'll have it just about finished by the time we get a new manager....

    NUMBER 148

    ELTON JOHN - CROCODILE ROCK

Laaa. Laaa laa laa laaa laaaaaaar. And so on. Watched it last Sunday night, and it was a reminder of how great he still is. But this is his best song, according to me anyway.

    NUMBER 147

THE BLUEBELLS - YOUNG AT HEART

Catchy as sin, even if it's basically ********. Great hook, great chorus. They do look a bit dodgy though, but then again who doesn't.

And now here's Elton John (played very well by Justin Timberlake), and the train quite simply, doesn't stop here, anymore!!.

I don't think you've quite grasped how this thread works, old mate. This is where @Fonzie tells us what the best ever 200 songs are, not where we post our own selections. Personally I think he's making a right ****ing hash of it*, but that's his prerogative. :D

*A million Oasis songs in the first 60 selections, but no sign of Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Killing Joke or even Gary Numan? Aye, alright...

Maybe they're all in the top 140 and I've teased you all this time.....?

    Spoilers: They aren't.

I wasn't fooled for a second. Anyway there wouldn't be room after you've listed another 139 Oasis songs. :p;):D

I wasn't having a go at Sir Elton, I was just explaining how this thread works. If you want to do your own list - 200 Elton John Classics - knock yourself out. Just be sure to put this one in, mind. :)

    PULP - MIS-SHAPES

Ever been picked on? Excluded from stuff because you were different? Bullied for being a bit of a weirdo? Well don't worry, cos Jarvis has got you sorted.

Here's a cracking bit of Muse, live in the Rome olympic stadium.

GEORGE HARRISON - GOT MY MIND SET ON YOU

Our George had ragged in during the early part of the 80s, deciding that the music business wasn't for him any more. His first offering on his return was this beauty - one of the best covers of all time. A joyous, horn filled rhythmic delight. I don't usually allow covers, but this is special.

    Here's some R.e.m, and although it's a sad song.. hey it's still a good one. :)

    SQUEEZE - UP THE JUNCTION

It makes me smile when songs like this crop up. A (hopefully non) autobiographical romp involving fatherhood and losing it all down the bookies and boozer. But the melody is brilliant, and it's 45 times better than Cool For Cats.

Saw them live last year supporting Madness - an absolute arsenal of catchy songs and played like they were the main act not the support.

    SMALL FACES - ITCHYCOO PARK

Ronnie Lane came up with this belter. Written about getting stung by nettles whilst off his face. Funny how life gives you moments like that. Good job he couldn't find a dock leaf.
