We'd lose money at a fiver because catering is contracted out, bigger costs for more policing/stewards and letting people in for like a third of the price of a season pass holder wouldn't go down well. If people don't wanna come then they can't be forced.
tough one for me this, would love Oakwell to be fuller ! but when we have a bigger crowd in we always and i mean always crumble
I was under the impression that pay on the day numbers were negligible. Completely off the top of my head if we normally get 1000 at £25 each =£25000. If we bring in say 4000 at £5 that's £20000. Yes it's a loss and yes there may be a bit extra to pay on stewarding. Though not that much for an extra 3000 I'd hope! But a 5 or 6k loss set against boosting the atmosphere, bringing in more fans some of whom just may get hooked on the excitement of trophy winning and promotion chasing. Worth the effort in my opinion. I have just dragged all that off the top of my head though so my figures are there to be shot down, lol.
End of the day the club are a business. We already lose enough money spending cash we don't make back through other avenues. We did a deal for the last few home games that was very reasonably priced. If Wembley, a chance to be promoted and improving weather isn't enough to make people come down with the feel good factor so high then there is little we can do. If we put it to a fiver season pass holders would have every right to moan. Plus to make up the loss of a decent price POTD, added policing/stewarding costs, can't make extra money from contracted out things like catering etc we'd probably need a crowd of around 18k to make the same at a guess.
