Interesting interview, Whitey. And while some of the criticism from some on this thread may be heading towards other managers, and it may be justified, it appears that your post above has been ignored a bit. This is not defending Hill/Flitcroft/Parkin/Davey or Allan bleeding Clarke, but Hassell was ignored by Wilson too. Then released by him.
Cheers Whitey. Good interview that, enjoyed it. Funny too! God what we would give for Bobby sitting in front of that back 4 or instead of brown at right back. Would guess we would be closer to top 6 than we are. I think Danny should stay on, as I've said a few times. Both as he has the experience to do well in L1 and also as we need some stability. But overlooking Bobby and not replacing him is a huge error. Would like some concrete reason why he was. Otherwise I'll feel like Danny has shot himself in the foot out of plain stubbornness like hill and Flitcroft and if he does get fired he may have himself to blame in this small part.
It would have shown more class to be honest amd put the rumours to bed Also interesting that he considers himself to be better than Shotton amd trippier
Great work, Whitey. Shades of Noel Gallagher's interview on FF with Balotelli? Enjoyable few minutes reading that out here in Lanzarote. Now back to the sunshine (home tomorrow :-( ). Cheers mate!
That last bit where he'd a club lined up, then it's went t1ts up when a former manager intervenened! Mmmmm, wonder who that was?!?
Exactly my point, he had the perfect opportunity to clear things up and he has decided to add to the mystery instead
To be fair Shotton initially replaced Hassell in the team but ended up playing at CB more often than RB as both Foster & Moore had injury problems so maybe Hassell hasn't considered Shotton as a full back but Ye he did say he felt the young version we had of Trippier had defensive frailties but has gone on to become a better player than him which I'd says probably correct
Very true. I'm sure every manager who ignored him, especially the three who froze him out will have had their reasons. I'm done caring, to be honest. I just wish him all the best and look forward to his testimonial.
Re: "Current management" He was fit and available for the majority of last season under Danny. He couldn't get a look in at all for the last few months. Even when we had no full backs, he was overlooked in favour of Etuhu and in a couple of games, Tom ******* Kennedy at right back. During that spell, we were shocking. Proper, proper ****. He was left on the bench. The manager chose Frimpong, Woods, Shea and many other awful midfielders, none more so than Stephen Dawson. So I'd say he didn't rate Bobby much. Weird though, considering he was our standout player in both games he started for Danny. And the fact that Danny bigged him up post Leeds in an interview. Last game of the season. Already relegated. At Oakwell. Found it quite sad that he didn't start that game. Danny'll have his reasons, as will Keith and Flicker (who both picked him a lot more than Danny did, despite everything).
Re: "Current management" Did you press Bobby on that ? Because it's either down to his faith or successive managers don't like 'popular' players. Both of which seem ludicrous.
Re: "Current management" I spoke to him separately to the interview. The feeling I got was that his relationships with senior people that had been built because of his time at the club meant those in charge of the footballing side didn't trust him. Nothing to do with faith, him as a person or, maybe even more sadly, his ability. Add in, as Whitey mentioned, their continued interest in him after he'd left BFC it's all rather sad along with the shocking treatment with a testimonial this year. I hope he gets a belter of a day out of it.
Re: "Current management" I've no idea mate, genuinely, but overall his treatment these last few years has been nothing short of disgraceful. Can't wait for the book.
Re: "Current management" Just doesn't add up for me (agree with what you say there like) - Wilson comes in, plays him, rates him then decides he can't trust him ? Somebody whispering in his ear ? Menkle
I think the fact he's held his tongue and offered a considered, thoughtful and respectful view when the people in question may still be working at the club says a lot about the bloke.
