    I live in Penistone and the lengths some people here will go to, to deny Penistone is in Barnsley, is comical.

    Despite being in the borough of Barnsley, being under BMBC, paying Barnsley council tax, having an 01226 dialling code and a big sign with Penistone and Barnsley on it.

    The most annoying thing to me is that the post code database returns Sheffield not Barnsley. Everytime I use it, I manually change it to Barnsley.

    It’s snobbery. Pure and simple.

    Correct, and that's speaking as someone who has lived in Penistone all my life.
    When asked where I'm from I always say near Barnsley.
    I think a lot of it, especially with the 'older' residents, is bitterness, which goes right back to 1974 when the old Penistone Urban District Council was abolished and Penistone was meged into Barnsley MBC.
