I have to take exception with that. Why is it that of the Cryne family?

I've no objection to the club paying back what's been spent on it over the years and a bit more besides but you can't say every penny the club ever generates after that should be paid across

I'd love to hear he's signed up for two more seasons on top of the year he's got left, instead of for just one additional year like Davies and Mcdonald. I don't see it as realistic though, so for the best value possible at the least disruption he should be sold in the summer when he will be worth the most and when we'd have the most time to replace him.

This isn't football manager 2017 mate.

I'm a football fan first and foremost. Anything else is secondary to those lads on the pitch, regardless of how significant.

I want to see the best players playing for my team as long as possible.

When it comes to the point that were inviting clubs to come and take them away, then that's probably it for me.

We already encouraged him to leave enough by selling the quality in the team (joke)

Of course we should encourage him to sign up if he doesn't want to we should sell in tbe summer. Pretty straightforward.

That's because you are not understanding what I'm saying.

As a club we just CANNOT afford to keep going in the same vein as we have been.
Players are only earning a third of what they could elsewhere. That's a fact we cannot change.

So when they make the grade - like Marc Roberts has done - then to be fair to the player and ensure that the maximum amount of money is ploughed back into the club then the RIGHT TIME has to be found to sell the player.

As far as Marc goes that time is this summer when the club has time to find and start to bring up to speed other young and hungry players

I don't want anyone at the club that's got less than 12 months left on their contract. I want them to sign back up or be sold this summer. We can't afford another January like the one that's just ruined our season by forcing us to sell players cheaply and not being able to bring in adequate replacements.

As I've already said, I totally understand what your saying, but you're not getting my point

Maybe the original post was so worded as a wind up, but "encourage" is not a word that should be associated with your players leaving the football club.

Argue the toss about it, and back your mates up all you like, even if they don't even attend games.

The club can't win. If we "encouraged" our players to bugger off so we got money for them, and didn't spend it immediately, every bugger would be moaning that it's "going in Patricks back pocket" and "we've no ambition" etc etc etc

Think we should be pushing for minimum a one year extension to his contract now before the vultures start to circle. This will put us in a better negotiating position should other clubs come in for him. I do honestl believe though that he should put another year under his belt and develop the partnership with Angus to a formidable level. If hypothetically 5m is banded about now, another year with an ever increasing balance of clean sheets and solid performances could see the real big teams willing to take interest and that could lead to minimum double what he is worth now.

If we can build on our defence, ideally a strong physical and quick right back, Yids at left back with good cover, we can look to seriously reduce the goals conceded column for next season.

I'm not being negative but we have seen quite a few sloppy goals conceded this season from some basic individual errors. If the team can reduce those and build on the fantastic season we have had following our return from L1, it will only add to the value of both Roberts and Angus.

Certainly disagree with nudgers viewpoint that we should be encouraging Roberts to move on.

The term 'encourage' seems to have rubbed some up the wrong way.
It weren't meant to - but what other term can you use?

I also said it would be great if he stays - but that would mean a longer or better still a more flexible contract.

If we cash in on players such as Marc then hopefully the recruitment team have time to bring other players in that can be put on longer term or better still a more flexible contract.

We CANNOT start the next season with players on contracts that end the following summer.

No matter how good they are.

Because the better players will propel us up the league.
And that will only attract clubs that can offer bigger wages to cherry pick those players come January.

If they are any good - and have only a year on their contract then the club has to sell.

Having the best players playing in the team whenever possible is a must.

    Everything else is secondary.

I go to watch Barnsley football clubs first team. In all my years of doing so we've had great players, lost them and replaced them in time.

Too much time is spent worrying about what might or might not happen. Let the people that run the club do that, it's what they do.

If Roberts signs a contract extension, great, if not I'll enjoy watching him captain the team until he leaves.

Just on the subject of Roberts and whether he leaves or not, do we still have Lewin Nyatanga under contract and could he still do a job for us at this level.
