The point is WE DO !! I have posted what you are to the majority of the BBS, That is how you come across, if it is not true then prove it , show us how we are wrong, be more likeable, you have posted some very good threads on here, but they get lost in the deluge of rubbish ! If you dont agree with something , fair enough, but to go out of your way to try and prove that everyone else is wrong and you are right is ludicrous. Night Phil, try and have a think about how you seem to others.
Stayed up calgary and watched it. Not good. I feel Cook will get the flack but I think thats unfair. Anderson Broad panesar KP Bell are all experienced. They have to take it too. People keep saying about the fields, according to Strauss the bowlers set them. You saw in the last test when Prior moved a man on Broads spell. It lasted one ball and he was moved back. KP, seems to say little. Hes played in t/20 cricket in India. He should be doing a lot more in the field.
I give you some credit for staying up - there cannot be many people in England who stayed up to watch that. At least it's a very decent time of day from me. I honestly don't know what to make of it. I agree with you that there are a couple of decent players in that team, but I think Cook needs to step down as captain, as he has been proven to be lacking in his decision-making (IMO), and it will likely do his batting some good too. I really have very little time for KP in test matches, but I don't want to start another debate on his attributes, or lack of them but he should be showing more leadership, as you quite rightly say - he seems to "hide" in the field far too often. Anyway, let's move on from this depressing cricket. We've got some footie to look forward to (or not :-( ) tomorrow.
Considering he's one of our most experienced players, KP spends far too much time fielding at fine leg. He doesn't engage with the rest of the team enough when his input would surely be of value, particularly as I think Cook is really struggling. Why we played such a defensive field when they only needed 70 runs with 9 wickets left I've no idea.
Like that. My other half says he faced Colin Croft in the nets at Lancashire once. We'll he thinks he did. Never saw the ball.
I too played against Gough under 16's think it was a couple of times, never got me out, but that was more luck than judgement.
This has been great reading this morning. Thanks. Especially seeing Hemsy the Destroyer lose his rag and drop the f-bomb P.s England are fcukin shiiiiiiiite Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The signs were there even when we were world #1 and we played the only genuinely good team in world cricket at the time - South Africa - and got completely mullered. This is the weakest era for cricket I can recall, and while there are some good players in many teams, only South Africa look a great side. This has been a humiliating series, but it may be the wake up call needed to make some changes. Cook is not a good captain. Our pace attack is too similar. Our tail doesn't wag at all. We have too many players who are guaranteed a place while other are dropped without giving them a proper run in the team (Graham Onions?). We have a list of players we're waiting for to come good while ignoring the form players on the county circuit. Needs sorting if we're going to push for that world number one spot again and actually be the best team in the world, not being there by default until we play the genuinely good sides.
I said after the 3rd test what Cook said was frightening. We're not going to just change the side for the sake of it, or along those lines. It's nearly impossible to be dropped by this management. Expect Prior back in for Bairstow for the last test, and maybe a bowling change.
The worry is who is actually knocking on the door to break into this team (Stokes apart). who is our best up coming opener? Wicketkeeper? Spinner? New ball bowler? Worrying.
This is what I think to what you've just said. I will try and look at each point and say what I think England would think. South Africa came over as a great team. But there was a lot wrong for England. We had players verbally fighting with each other. Prior was the one that actually saved that i think and then Later Cook. This isn't good but I think it will be a springboard for good things. This isn't as bad as what happened in West Indies a few years ago. Cook as won 3 of is 5 series Gaz, hes learning but winning a home ashes and in INDIA isn't bad. Give him time. England have planned this for years and are currently planning who the next Captain will be, Mr Joe Root. Our pace attack is different I would say but the players are are Physically different apart from Broad aren't in form. Onions wouldn't do a lot on these wickets. Sorry but you can't say that. In the time that England gained number one they played a lot of teams. South Africa away and got a 1-1 draw. Australia away. Pakistan at Home and won. They were cheating with bets but I don't think they ever meant to lose a test. That bowl attack was VERY good. That England win against India 4-0 was against a team of Cricketing Legends.
