RE: Well said that man... Dunno what you mean. I was up at the crack of dawn (ooh err, missus!) to go to mass. Father delivered a wonderful eulogy on the subject of abstinence. Made me think about poor sinners like yourself who drink yourself into a stupor every Saturday night... You are in my prayers...
You have a point and are brave enough to make it. Some on here would have them at the gallows already. If they'd been accused of murder there would have been less fuss. Well as long as the victim had been white of course. Nobody knows the full facts yet and as such we should reserve judgement. Any hint (yes hint) of racism these days is in the child molestation class with today's PC brigade. I'm vehemently anti-racist but sometimes these days i think we have to take a step back and take stock. I honestly think that this is no more than a case of three drunken young men having a disagreement with a taxi driver and come on who hasn't been there before ? I doubt it was anything to do with the colour of his skin, he could have been Welsh, Scottish, Irish or whatever. FFS let's get off the PC high horse and inject a touch of realism here.
What a load of nonsense. Do you really think that if they'd have been accused of murdering anyone it would have received less attention? You said, And then went on to say, Ermm, right.
I've lived in Leeds for 5 years and i've caught taxi's at all hours on a fairly regular basis and never had an ounce of trouble or even a cross word with any of them. What exactly do you mean by ? Like Teenwolf or something?
"I am positive that there will have been some provication for any alleged incident to take place" - keeping an open mind, eh? Show me one post where any one of the PC Brigade has said these players are guilty and talked about it in anything other than in a hypothetical manner. I haven't started a single thread on this topic (although I've replied to some) - DiscoTyke has started at least two and in each has proceeded to tell us all how he thinks the situation has unfolded despite, at the same time, entreating everyone else to keep an open mind...
I've lived in Leeds 5 years, caught taxis at all times of the day and night and never had an ounce of trouble. I read some of these lazy generalisations with much amusement. I had a taxi driver hand me back a £10 note that i'd mistakenly given to him thinking it was a £5. And believe it not, he wasn't white!
1. Slate the PC Brigade 2. Make intimations and generalisations about British Asian taxi drivers whilst making excuses for those people using taxis. 3. Tell people not to pass comment 4. Pass comment My girlfriend recently caught a taxi in Leeds and the driver had been working in Oxford. He'd come up here for a few months and told her he was going back down there in large part because he was fed up of being abused, racially or otherwise by loud, obnoxious, drunk young men.
That about sums it up... I don't think I've ever called anyone a racist since I've been posting on here - I may have intimated their views are somewhat racist but I've always given the reasons why so that the other party can respond. Most of the time there's no repsonse until a few weeks later when summat else crops up and then it's: "I'm not a racist but I hate all none-white people - but if you challenge my opinions with a reasoned argument I'm gonna cry out 'PC Brigade' and claim you're stiffling free speech"...
Two conflicting experiences and opinions. Yet - without any prior knowledge of the reliability of either contributor to this, the majority seem willing to believe the latter. Is taht not a prejudiced approach in itself? However, there is no reason why BOTH views cannot be correct. I will state yet again (last time as this is getting tedious) that not ALL my experiences have been as originally described AND will add I have never ever had any trouble purely because I wouldn’t rise to the bait. What I have tried to state - and been misquoted to high hell - is that there is a possibility (NOTE possibility before this get's twisted) that the 3 BFC players were provoked. The examples I have given were instances where I have felt provoked but not risen to the bait. The 3 BFC footballers may well have lesser tolerance thresholds than I - lowered even further by the effects of drink. PS - In reply to an earlier comment. Apartheid. The World has evolved over 1000s of years based on the principles of apartheid. That’s why we have 100s of different countries living side by side, with different cultures, outlooks, religions etc. I use apartheid without a capital A so as not to confuse with the disgraceful Apartheid as seen in S Africa. What I’m saying is that to try and integrate such diverse cultures- of such differing values and opinions -may ultimately be more dangerous than keeping them separate. I make no apologies if these opinions offend but hopefully it will dispell this notion that I condone physical violence of any sort, particularly that of a racially motivated nature.
1. "that there is a possibility (NOTE possibility before this get's twisted) that the 3 BFC players were provoked", and there is also a possibility that they weren't, should they have been provoked it still does not justify an attack. Given the fact we don't know the full facts then perhaps we could all stop speculating until such time as it goes to court. 2. But movement of peoples has happened for centuries, much of it started by people being forceably removed from their homelands (you may have seen some of the programmes on TV to mark the abolition of slavery), and then economic migration as people seek nothing more than a better life for themselves and their families, so quite how you'd seek to keep these apart, at what point you would repatriate and stop freedom of movement I'm not sure.
"is that I am positive that there will have been some provication for any alleged incident to take place" - now you're only positive there's a possibility? Or maybe it's possible that there was no provocation, or maybe it's possible it never actually happened, or maybe it's possible it did happen and the three players are members of the KKK, or maybe the driver wanted his fare in sexual favours or maybe a lot of things which is why we have trials and juries. It's funny though you've only raised the possibility of the fault laying with the driver - i.e. you have pre-judged the situation hence the word prejudice... Why do you automatically assume you've offended anyone? I've taken issue with your ramblings not because I'm offended but because I don't agree with you and desire a debate on the issue. Why have so many posts on this matter been preceded with a "I'm not a racist" or "The PC brigade will probably brand me racist"? Methinks old Sigmund Freud may have summat to say on the issue...
Let's face it footballers getting into scrapes is nothing new. We only have to consider the last few years with Bowyer, Woodgate , Collymore etc etc of a typical footballers image not exactly been angelic. The BFC players may be guilty, They may not be. But when all is done and said I am passionate about BFC -as I am sure you are =- so my natural tainted inclination is to want this not to be true. I strongly believe there is a possiblity this is not true - or grossly exagerrated based on my experiences fo Taxi Drivers in Leeds. Had it been my little old Aunt Ada who had given the lads a lift and they had allegedly beat her up I would have no doubt the BFC players were guilty. How can anyone view anything entirely objectively? There is no reason for me to beleive the 3 BFC players in question are sinister in any way. But there again, I don't know them persoanlly so maybe they are. This chatroom is not a Kangeroo court - but neither is it the Old Bailey either. It's a chatroom where everyone can make thwir views known. Surely, it isn't so much about what the view is it is how it's made. I have made my view known that based on my experiences we shoud not automatically assume the BFC players fall into the stereotype arrogant hoodlums they are often portrayed. End of from me..... Best of luck Howard, Reid amd Richards. My gut instinct say's you are innoccent but nobody knows for definite yet - and let me be strung up for being passionate about the Reds and supporting the team I love.

And despite telling people that we shouldn't speculate you're continuing to do so. No it's not a Kangaroo court and a good job, because the majority of what you have said has been revolved around how you hope that they aren't guilty and a bunch of anecdotal evidence about taxi drivers as to why this might be so. Well you've spent a good deal of time stereotyping taxi drivers......
just out of interest, can you clarify "racially or otherwise " was it Racially, or not, or a bit of both (ie racism and other types of abuse)? Just appears (to me) that this is not saying actual racism (there is also of course his/her version of what racism is) not that it makes any difference, just to clarify your wording
RE: just out of interest, can you clarify "racially or otherwise " Apparently he'd had comments about his Asian background and also just general abuse. Don't know what he claimed was said as my girlfriend didn't ask.
