perkins....gary jones.....brendan o'connell...... all run around lots and hailed as world beaters by some, more often than not they run around lots because they are always half a yard behind play or lose the ball often!!

actually thats a bit unfair on headless chicken o'connell who at least scored some goals

He sets a tempo to the team and stops us going backwards with his constant closing down. And he is tidy with the ball.

It doesnt seem to work very often that tactic, well not last season anyway. Thanks for the reasoning.

I seem to remember it did in 1st half of season. Then he got injured. He played ok when he did come back, rarely one of our worse performers.

Agreed. He did well with his closing down and passing yesterday.

Other than that, I was impressed with Cywka and Stones. Dagnall took his goals well. Etuhu didn't seem too interested. Wiseman and Foster were mainly poor. Alnwick spoiled what would have been a decent personal performance. And well, Hassell was quality.

    My ratings:

Alnwick - saved everything but a cracker. Did nothing wrong.

    Stones -excellent.

McNulty - thought he handled Adebola well enough. Some nice touches and passes out too and put a reight shift in extra time.

Foster - poor passing/touch put us under pressure a few times.

Wiseman - did ok for a right back at left back. Nothing spectacular but nothing that makes me think he'll be good enough in the league.

Perkins - saved us at least 3 times. Tackled well but his real strength was cutting out passes and helping everyone else out. Chasing down a man who was clean through in second half typified it.

    Mellis - didn't notice him.

Etuhu - looks gangly and awkward but thought he was dangerous. needs an end product.

Done - thought he was poor.

Davies - more bothered about playing the lovely person with their centre half. great goal but only other thing i remember was him not being able to control a ball.

    Dagger - hero.

    Polish - looked good.

DJ - played a binder before and at half time.

Perkins stats from first half yesterday:

    passes -20
    success -18
    Caught in possession - 0
    tackles-5
    success-3
    fouls conceded - 0
    Headers contested -4
    won -2

Didn't pull up any trees, but did his job effectively. Only Mellis passed more, and he was caught a few times in possession. Perkin's gets in and gives it quickly, no fuss, he only got done once with a nice little pass and go after missing a tackle, he was never out of position and frequently covered at full back when needed. He certainly didn't just run around a lot, would be first name on my team sheet.
