Luke Steele can now go for me. He's had long enough and understandably, I can see why he's pissed off about the contract but there has been much change at the club over the last few months since Keef left. Cranie would be the biggest signing of the summer and Steele will never find a new club that love him as much as we do.
Maybe Steele did have a point then if a keeper deemed good enough only for league 1 is chosen as one of the 3 best keepers in the land.
The same Cranie who has finished the last two seasons with either relegated or nearly relegated sides? Is what someone could put!
If someone was using that argument I'd expect them to realise such criteria would also class legends the likes of Neil Redfearn, John Hendrie & Ashley Ward being just as incompetent as Martin Cranie, if not more so. Thankfully, I don't know anyone that ignorant and small minded.
So what you are suggesting is that barnsley spend £250k plus a decent wage that would make him one of the better paid players in the squad to replace a keeper who is easily his equal if not better.
Hendrie & Redfearn had at least two relegations to their name and Ward had at least four. Cranie has had one.
Re: If someone was using that argument Ah but, 2 of those "legends " earned promotion to the Premiership with BFC, the other earned a multi million transfer, unlike Cranie who has niether!
My opinion of him will be the same - he's a quality Championship goalkeeper and a decent bloke. Him, Flitcroft and the club have been quite adult and grown up in how they've approached the issue of his new contract and possible move elsewhere - unlike the point scoring rush to have their own prejudicial viewpoint validated sheeite that many (on both sides of the Steele's ability debate/Flicker's managerial ability also) have pursued. I get the impression some can't wait for Steele (and Crainie) to leave then they can have a go at those 2 and/or the club/Flitcroft etc.
Irrelevant The argument is Cranie's abilities can be called into question because Coventry were relegated and Barnsley nearly were. Between them Redfearn (with Barnsley & Charlton), Hendrie (Barnsley & Middlesbrough twice) & Ward (Norwich, Barnsley, Blackburn Rovers & Bradford City) have at least NINE relegations. However, moving the goalposts when an argument is challenged & becomes an inconvenience is not unheard of.
Re: Irrelevant I am Rumpole Of The BBS. Further proof is that I, too, am under the thumb of 'She who must be obeyed'.
Re: Irrelevant Most of those relegations came after they had joined us though. Does that change anything?
Re: Irrelevant When it involves a Barnsley legend and when it contravenes the crux of a poorly prepared and presented argument. <img src ="http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/images/reviews/190/1294770315_1.jpg">
I like the way You play Devil's Advocate, always stylish and never confrontational. I doff my hat to you, sir. Hopefully, other posters will take note.
