My first post so hear we go. Should pc think about getting rid of the don,
It seems year on year he seems to put his foot in it. Any trouble or problems down at our club seems to be instigated allegedly by the don. Shorely all this transfer fee problems regarding vas should be the straw that broke the camels back. Time to say bye bye Mr Rowing

I think that a lot of things get blamed on Don, when it isn't necessarily his fault. Don is the public face of Barnsley FC's board, and therefore will be personally blamed for decisions made by a group of people who collectively have the interests of Barnsley FC as their priority.

The decisions taken won't always be seen favourably by the fans, and some of the decisions won't be understood by the management but I have no doubt that they will have been made for the right reasons.

As fans we seem ask for ambition, but ambition is directly related to risk. As a club, and in the financial mess that football is in, we can't take undue risks. Don Rowing, Patrick Cryne and Barry Taylor will have full faith in the signings that Keith Hill wants to make - but just because Keith says they're good enough to be sold on for profit it doesn't negate the fact that they could suffer a career threatening injury and we lose our "investment". Let's not forget the last big investment we made - £1.2m for Iain Hume. I was never convinced we'd get our money back for Hume, but in the end we lost the lot due to his injury - something the board probably couldn't fathom at the outset.

Keith Hill will continue to do well for us, and hopefully he'll be backed in pre-season to bring in the players he really wants. The board are playing a low-risk strategy at the moment, but don't blame that on Don.

Why what exactly has he done to warrant him being sacked? Aside from the Liverpool ticket fiasco which he held his hands up about he hasn't done too much wrong IMO. I think there is a culture of him being blamed for many things that are wrong with the club - he seems to be an easy target.

He does. Sometimes he makes it easy like, but the phrase "fall guy" springs to mind.

I think a club our size is a bit beyond him, especially with no other board members involved in the day to day running of things. No disrespect to the fella.

The board are not there to run the day to day things, Michael Spinks, Gerry whewall and Mike Patzelt were always the ones doing the admin backed up by office staff, the way it seems now is Don left to manage with sharon and a couple of others. probably a cost cutting and money saving exercise. Employing more staff must mean less cash to spend elsewhere

Re: And you could all do a better job!

Whilst he makes mistakes, he does come across as the whipping boy. It wouldn't harm Cryne or even Taylor to give an interview once in a while. Don doesn't help himself with comments like.......

    http://www.barnsley-chronicle.co.uk/sport/article/4907/rowing-sometimes-we-have-to-sell

"I’d like to see more loyalty but it’s money that talks and there’s always some clubs that are prepared to give more than others. It’s sad really but that’s where football has gone and we have to compete with that."

Yes we lose players due to lack of loyalty but we also gain new players through lack of loyalty. Guys leave us to join a bigger club for more money, yet we get players through the same method. It works both ways. We've got ourselves guys this week from Leyton Orient and Exeter City, who will have fans thinking just how we have about Vaz Te and Drinkwater.

Leyton Orient offered the lad a bigger wage deal than we offered him to stay but he moved for the higher level and to be back up north.
