If we sign THREE players permanently by the end of this week I'll bare my ar*e on the town hall steps at mid day...
It thinks what's more difficult to understand is why having freed about 20 players since January we were not able to at least start recruitment. For example the 4 players we offered contracts to who refused them. Presumably we had the money to finance this. We then made no moves to use this money for team rebuilding. We just sat on our hands. At the minute we are virtually spending no money under SCMP. All players 21 and under are discounted as is Jennings. Doesn't leave many to be counted towards it does it. I don't think people would be so concerned if we had at least maintained a semblance of a squad and then were getting rid of the high earners to get a further couple of players I and save some money. At the minute we have about 6 players clearly it's very slow start. Given his background it would be unfair to see Hemmings as anything bother than a development player rather than a first team regular at least initially. Hourihane is the only player we've signed who you would expect to go straight into the team. Danny clearly felt the need for 4 bodies in midfield given the contracts offered. We have made no move to recruit the other 3 as of yet when clearly we could have done so. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
I think 18 goals last season for a struggling Scottish Championship side and a place in the PFA team, puts Hemmings a bit higher than a development squad player.
Well we've apparently enquired or made bids for Michael Smith, Gary Mackay-Steven and Sam Winnall. Not quite fair to say we've not tried to bring in players. Especially the ones Danny wants.
Don't get me wrong a good signing but clearly given the length of contract we've offered and his inexperience at this level we see it as a gamble and now CoG had gone you would presume that we have to be looking to get 2 decent strikers in. The leap for Hemmings is probably like CoG going to a mid table premiership side from us. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
I'd see those signings as a massive step forwards. But the Mackay-Steven one sounds like wishful thinking to me and we thus far have put in a bid they were never going to accept. I hope I'm wrong on that he'd be a very good signing. The others I think we might be able to prise away. We might not. What happens if we can't get any of them? Do we start the season as we are? I'd say these are the sort of players you sacrifice your high earners for. Players you would expect to be the better players. But it feels a little like doing the painting before you've got the roof on Danny presumably has had his list of players since May and I'm guessing there were more than those 3 names on them. Like I said no need to panic but at the same time no point pretending the situation is ideal. I think Danny has it in him to get sone good players in and mould them up into a decent mid table team. I just hope that's judged as a successful achievement in year 1 of Barnsley 2.1. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
I can't see us signing three players today so saying that looks a very safe bet. If you mean by the end of next week....
Maybe we're not signing players because we are making the kind of offers that only we would accept. Where in the ****ing world could you get a team to part with Stones, Steele and O'Grady for £3.5 million?
We are a soft touch when it comes to money but why is that? Our income must be that low... Look at the following transfers who've played champ football McCormack 11m Dwight Gayle 8.6 Ulloa 7m Graham 4.5m Rhodes 8m O'Grady undisclosed six figured deal I guess so that could be 100k-999k The only fair deal we have had is john stones as an out going. Don't judge that by hindsight either.
My guess is its less than the £500,000 offered by Charlton. We have more to gain by hiding this than Brighton. All this it gives away how much money we have to play with is baloney, clubs have ways and means to find these things out.
Indeed. The agents will know, and it's in their interests to push fees up as much as possible, so why wouldn't they share information with each other?
