Disappointing but in terms of quality of playing personnel we are bottom three so we'd only be doing 'as expected' if we were relegated. Indeed, but the one thing we can say for certain is that it wasn't Hecky that chose to get rid of Scowen, Morsy, Roberts, Hourihane etc, dismantle a team that Hecky had flying up the league playing some lovely stuff and had just won seven out of ten games. Will we ever know? Personally I believe Hecky has to work with what he's given in terms of permanent transfers. I think he then has to hastily use the loan spaces to frantically plug the glaring holes and imbalances that have been left in what he's been given. Hence the original loans including two defensive midfielders and two strikers (if McBurnie had been done). Just a theory, could be ballax. We can only hope that lessons have been learned but the capacity of any club to get the right players in and re-balance a squad in the notoriously difficult January window will be limited imo, no matter how much money is chucked at it. Didn't Wigan bring in something like 13 players last January - and still went down.
It's not down to anybody. It's part and parcel of what being a barnsley supporter has always been. We have good spells, we have bad ones. It's who we are. Maybe that will change slightly going forward. I hope so, but you can't lay blame at anyone's door for doing their best to deal with reality.
We’ve never sold players to the degree we have and never done so when there was no need to. Players have been sold or not retained to prove people right.
As many in this thread have said Hecky is doing as well as could be expected with the squad. I assume the sack the manager few have suggestions as to who would do a better job considering most of the managers we have had this century have been worse than Hecky or the much maligned Johnson before him. In any case in the league we only lost one of the last 5 games hardly manager sacking form
Is there room to pass Luton on a coach? That’s going to hurt! What makes you think he will have gone to the game, it’s not as if he mentions his attendance at all games often........
I also support Hecky fully and let us judge him at the end of the season and also the board at the end of this window.
Thinking about it, they probably went via the M11, so when I posted that he was probably passing Stansted Airport. Now that would be painful, especially if the runway was sideways.
Or put another way, our recruitment process had never been so good to realise so many saleable assets at the same time that eventually outgrew us such that we couldn’t possibly hang on to them within the constraints of our finances.
Count me in that camp too JLWBL. I'm as down as anyone about recent results but swapping manager would be suicide and I entirely confident that Hecky should remain at the helm. I understand why some bring it up; football is fickle and recent results are abysmal but this season was ALWAYS going to be a long hard slog and I was prepared for that before the first whistle back in August. So, yes, in the unlikely event that someone from the club is reading this to gauge fans views - I'm also firmly in the Hecky in camp.
Excellent post from the OP - I too back Hecky but lurking in the back of my mind is the thought that Lee/Conway/Ganaye will be looking to bring in their own man -
Hecky all the way for me... some folk have very short memories..... I dread to think what it would be like if war broke out and it was hand to hand combat in the trenches You wouldn't know who your enemies were ..... Those calling for his head how many silk purses have you made from a sows ear He wouldn't be linked to all these high profile jobs if he was as bad as some make out It's because he's good at his job he gets linked or haven't you worked that one out yet....
Lots of folks including myself said at the beginning of the season that if we scraped survival Hecky would have performed a miracle. Here we are halfway through the season scraping survival with the added bonus of a transfer window and a recent takeover. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season, optimistic but realistic. The clubs that have been very successful without spending billions have worked together and grown as a team, hopefully now we have new owners PH will have the opportunity to grow the players into a successful team, with a few good additions obviously.
