Good old Joe, great we have a captain that can lead by example . I'm being a forefathers supporter this series but shall enjoy watching the highlights tonight.
It's a Yorkshire test. First with the Starc wickets. Then with Head runs. Now with the Root and Malan partnership. Yorkshire have a good history of signing relatively unknowns that go on to have a really good career. Nice respect by Root to his old team mate when Head went. We need to somehow get 500+ to have something to bowl at, but it's a far better situation than it could have been.
Well that's better, I half expected us to roll over for 150 again. Nice to show that we have some fight and we aren't just going to give in for the Aussies. Australia still firm favourites in my opinion but we've given them something to think about!
This reminds of the 2010 1st test, we got a low score and then Cook and others ran the score up. An unlikely draw. If you can dig in on Aussie pitches early, the runs are there.
Yep at least we’ve shown something. Can accept losing when you fight hard and force the opposition to dig deep, which is certainly what we are doing here. Hopefully we can do something similar tomorrow, unlikely but you never know with the right application.
They need to dig in during the morning session tomorrow. It's a case of starting from scratch. Malan and Root need to protect Stokes, Pope and Buttler. Hopefully one or both of them can get set tomorrow and post big scores. However, if the can't at least stick around and take the shine off the ball for Stokes, Pope and Buttler to hopefully add some runs to bowl at.
Credit where it's due. Great fightback but still a long, long way to go. Still need to bat through all tomorrow at least and pass 500. Fingers crossed we can do it as avoiding defeat would really set up the rest of the series. Rain on the last day would help too
Well I was pleasantly surprised to see the game hadnt finished when I woke up this morning Still think if Root goes early tomorrow the game will be over before the end of play, but if he can get a big hundred there is still an outside chance we can make a game of it and at least get an honourable defeat rather than an embarrassing one
If we can bat all day then at the average you'd expect for runs per over that would be around a 250 lead. With the heavy hitters we've got we could speed things up a bit. Alternatively we could happily try and play out a draw and not even try to win. With a quick turnaround to the day night test hopefully with a fresh Broad and Anderson back to go after some tired Aussies made to spend a lot of time in the field this second innings.
Burns is shot. And looks a bag of nerves. Cant we call up.Alex Lees from the lions squad as an alternative test opener?
His guard and trigger movement make him a walking wicket to fast and aggressive bowlers. His timing is all over place, so he's afraid of going after anything loose which is there to be driven to the fence.
