I remember more clearly the game we beat them 2-1 with Bassett in charge. I was in the home end again with my uncle that was a good win!
I can remember the beginning of the 99/00 season and Bassett saying after we'd lost at Charlton that the objective was staying up and looking at a squad containing Hignett, Shipperley, Barnard, Chettle, Dyer and Miller and thinking ballax.
It was a late one, but I don't remember it being 90th minute. We had a few minutes left to try and get another equaliser
Simon ***********Garner. What a ********* he was. Goal scorer extraordinary - the ******* *****. God I ******** ******him. ********
Oh I have to say that I have an amazing depth of football trivia locked away in my brain, concerning Barnsley I mean. Lots of facts and memories and I could supplement those with my huge scrapbook collection going back to the 1960s but for one sad fact. I was “persuaded” to pass them on to my brother’s step daughter a few years ago when storage became a problem. She had better be looking after them!
It was late on definitely, I got a lot of stick sat around me, only Barnsley fan in exec seats. But at least they didn’t fill me in from the posh seats!
I remember the Rammell late winner. He'd come on as a late sub and glanced a high header past the goalie. Do you remember the old stand we used to be in behind the goal? A typical old rusty thing with the barriers to lean on. Surprisingly for our league status we used to take quite a good following.
I'm going to say my first time seeing us vs Blackburn would have been in the Premier league at home. I might have been at the home win in 1992, but I honestly have no idea. That's the year my dad started taking me. I doubt it as I would have only been 2 at the time.
