I'd definitely have him in the side now. He'd be a much better option than Martin Cranie, even if he is 58!

Seriously though, it's a toss up for me whether Futcher or McCarthy was the best centre back I've seen in a Reds shirt. Futcher is certainly my favourite. One thing for certain is that the chasing pack (De Zeeuw, Tiler, Taggart, Davis) are some way behind those two. When I am picking my favourite Reds team the centre backs are always the easiest. Right back becomes a straight choice between Eaden and Joyce, but as Joyce was never the same player after his injury Eaden gets it (even if Stones was probably the best, despite his much fewer appearances).

Always struggle with a left back though. I tend to pick a different one every time, because none really stand out. If Barnard had left after the Huddersfield game he would have walked it, but he got steadily worse after that game. So I generally pick Thompson. He was only a first teamer for a year, but was an unsung hero of the promotion campaign, and what a shot he had on him. I was right behind his goal against Stoke and it was terrific.

I think Futch and Big Mick would make just about everyone's (of our age) all time XI.
