what about that bar above jd sports is that still ‘with the solicitor’ also why hasn’t new look and marshmallow blends been announced yet seeing as one is being fitted out and the other now has signage on the windows or are the glassworks pushing this food festival first?
Have any other units attracted interest of late as there is still a number to let

cheers for your insight on all thing glassworks @Freddiel

Had a stroll round Sheffield City Centre recently and it really hit home what a great job the council have done in developing the town centre. Sheffield looks tired, old and disjointed. No character or decent shops.

It’s a shame for them but amongst all the criticism of the council that gets chucked about I think we should balance that and say the Glassworks and surrounds looks fantastic and offers a real vision of joined up thinking. Of course we would like everything to happen at once but life isn’t like that.

Noticed that the glassworks finally announced New Look, opening in July. Slowly getting there and salt house is all but down now with them releasing their food menu last night

From what I hear. Could be an internal decision, they may have been influenced by The Botanist joining. Either way, as it stands today, it’s back to opening as a Flannels.

Wonder if they have had a site visit more recently and witnessed the progress that’s been made and re-evaluated. With the likes of the botanist and others really adding to this complex

personally I’m glad it’s reverting back to a flannels, although it’s effectively the same store selling the same items flannels carries far more kudos than cruise does and I think it’s adds far more to the town

Happy to provide info when I have it. I’m not really an insider so I can only share what I know from those that do.

The official updates have been a little lax recently I agree. The management of the official website is a little hit and miss too - e.g the leasing plan on there still has 200 Degrees as a unit under offer. The press releases have always been a bit late with announcements, but I guess things do need to be signed off by multiple parties etc. Some lease negotiations may take longer than others too. They also tend to group multiple announcements together.

I’m sure we’ll hear an official announcement for Dolly’s and Urban Burger soon, but I’ve no idea when, or what stage everything is at. Marshmallow Blends is taking a small kiosk unit so would expect that to be grouped into a bigger announcement too.

Im not sure what’s happening with Boom Battle Bar, but they’re opening all over the place so their timeline may be later than others. I haven’t heard anything about any of the remaining units to let either, but will post in this thread if I do!

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Giving Ashley free rent in such a long deal is a massive mistake. I know that this isn't unique to Barnsley as it happens everywhere but there's absolutely no incentive for him to spend a penny or ever even open a store. He's got a long lease with seemingly no clauses in it compelling him to open anything specific or anything at all and when it's such a large area if the glassworks I think that's a mistake, especially when dealing with someone like him.

And I’ve told you before, the lease agreement doesn’t necessarily start as soon as legals are signed. There are a number of reasons for delays to units opening, and not one of them is because Mike Ashley thinks he can get away with delaying the opening of a store so he can run down the clock on an agreed lease to save money!

If you want to talk about wasting money on empty units, speak to Sainsburys PLC. They’re still paying an obscene amount for the former B&Q at Stairfoot!
