I think we’ve wasted two opportunities since the owners took over to give this plan a chance of working. Both times Paul Conway has been CEO and we’ve made a mess of recruitment. Whenever we’ve had settled CEO’s and Head Coaches, so either Murphy/Struber or Murphy/Val, we’ve shown we can be flexible with the plan and it’s worked in our favour. A Conway/Schopp combo this Summer caused this, in my opinion.
Agree a physical side like Brum showed us all the desire to win first and second balls and just sheer application to win every ball. We look powder puff all over the pitch.
Even when we have the energy and desire to go in for the tackle we rarely win it. There were multiple occasions across the 90 minutes where we lost a 50/50 and even 60/40 tackles in our favour. Second half, Gomes shirked a challenge and by backing out he fouled someone running through. Free kick to them 30 yards from goal.
Waste of time sacking him. Just like it was a waste of time sacking Schopp - two yes men. It all starts from the top. Paul Conway is a disgrace.
Agreed. But they are not good enoughas a group to play the way we have tried to at this level of football. Week after week we have continued this approach. We 2/3rds of the way through January and have done nothing to fix the obvious deficiency in our squad. They are only human, if we can see all this then so can they. We see going down and the players know it.
Agree with that, but I was confused at the end when Roberts (I think) came running in and planted a flying headbutt on Moon, and they got the foul.
I winced when that happened. Then saw Moon get straight up. And then saw the referee give them a free kick - shocking decision.
At the start of the reign I thought it would be a shrewd appointment but it’s not working. The selections, the formations, the tactics. None of it. He’s not getting much help from the players though you’ve got to admit.
The only real selection choice today was Iseka vs. Cole as the rest almost picked itself. That was probably the weakest match day squad we’ve ever put out in the Championship - not helped by zero recruitment in January and the impact of Covid.
Had to laugh at Radio Sheff's Praise or Grumble. They suggested that they were going to Brum to hear from Poya, cue complete silence!
I agree today he didn’t have much choice. Although Moon coming on doesn’t help his case. There’s been previous evidence of poor selection from Poya already though.
I was feeling a bit down before I heard Poya on radio sheff telling me that we were the best side. I feel much better now!
