And so it came down to the last week of the '90 season, we lost a few games in hand, and we looked tired at that time, to be honest. (even though a few of those games were away at Ipswich and Sheff Wensdy, which we always lost in those days). The penultimate game (1-1) at home against mid-table Newcastle, was a massive et down, and it was a huge two points dropped. So on the last day, we had to either thrash Middlesbrough by four goals, or we had to win and hope Brighton didn't win, against flipping Ipswich!....
Mel was in the Social Club handing out our footy awards at the end of season knees up. He did a little speech in which he promised that we would get into the first division. Some claim, but he was true to his word because soon after that the leagues were renamed.
