to be honest I would tend to sway with what ive been told to my face by person X employed by BFC. At the moment it is a bit of a mess and needs a total over hauling. However, quality rather than quantity is a good line to look at. Thomas Harben....
RE: Old Red Sorry Coachman, but, I'm not the bloke you're thinking of. We've discussed this before (on the BFC m/board) and if we do know each other, it's probably from the 60's when, as teenagers, an old mate and I, watched Shipcroft Utd. Oh! does Wombwell Lions JFC, ring any bells?
RE: The Academy I remember the criticism of 'Long Ball Charlie' when Graham Taylor was managing England.
Try watching the videos they were dross...... It talked about wellying the ball 70 yards into the corners and chasing the fecker.
RE: Try watching the videos they were dross...... Do it didn't. Youve fallen for the mis-reporting of our illiterate, uneducated press. That should be enough to get them gunning for me. Charlie Hughes has had a lot of stick for his book the "Winning Formula" often from people who have not read to book. In it he gives 5 techniques for gaining entry to the attacking 3rd of the field. These are: 1. Long forward passes to the back of the defence. 2. Forward runs without the ball. 3. Forward passes to feet, supported by a player at an angle to receive the ball and pass it forward. 4. Receiving and turning with the ball. 5. Forward runs with the ball. Charlie did not avocate lumping the ball forward into space at every opportunity. The long foward pass was just one method he advocated to get the ball into dangerous areas. Some managers used the long ball to make up for the lack of class in their squad. No one has ever proved Charlie,s views wrong because they were based on many years of match analysis. They simply stated how teams won matches. Beckham passes the ball 40 yards to Raul and it's a great ball. Wise passes the ball 40 yards to Big Fash and it's a long ball. Look in any coaching manual, English, Brasilian, Spanish, Italian, American,Dutch and you will find the use of the long forward pass.
Funny as I have the videos at my mothers....... It also spoke at length about the second six yard box which was an imaginary box next to one painted on the pitch. These videos were based on mathematical probability and I believe that is where Charlie got his bad press from. His thoughts were the quicker you got into the opposing half and got as many crosses in as possible you had higher chance of scoring. This is not an entertaining method!! and certainly not one we should have been coaching kids. If you go back to the initial post re Charles Hughes you will see what I was refering to anyway. This era was when Mr Hancock started his coaching and it is all that a coach that has never played the game can refer to. It is learning by literature and mathematics which should be left to schools and not football pitches.
Oldham Tonight we will lose. our static strikeforce wont get past my mates ex boyfriend marcus holness.
It,s all well and good "slagging" the acadamy and its staff and it sounds like you have a very good technical knowledge of the game and are confident in that knowledge, but not confident enough to post under your REAL name, poor, very poor.
I am not stating that i am the Jose Mourinho of this board..... However what my real name has got to do with it is besides the point. I have on previous threads said that I have worries about the academy, that is all and that i believe that we would be better served with a coach that has played the game to professional levels. You will notice that if you read the full thread.(Y)
so... just cos you know or pretend about stuff you should post your real name? pot calling kettle black Mr Jedi One
RE: Funny as I have the videos at my mothers....... I think we are going round in circles now. I woldn't knock any of the Academy coaches for a lack of playing experience. I'm not sure if you mean as a pro or not. The best Coaches Iv'e ever seen come from a non-elite playing background. The Managers at Chelsea, Arsenal, and the England manager are fine examples of that. Some of the worst coaches I have ever seen, include an ex-England international who is managing at a high level. I can name dozens of ex-pros who can't coach, thats why many of them are scrounging a living on their past reputations. A coach does not need to have played the game at a high level, only to have played it. He needs to be intelligent, and a student of the game. Anyone embarking on a coaching course will tell you they thought they knew all there is to know about the game, and then say they realise they know very little. Hancock taught himself the Coerver coaching method not a mean achievement in itself. That demonstrates his willingness to learn and progress as a coach. The Dutch are not noted for use of the long ball. He would also have taken the conversion course to upgrade the Preliminary Coaching Certificate to the FA Coaching Certificate(UEFA B part1). He definately has the Full UEFA "B" Award.I have no idea if he has the "A" Licence or the Youth Coaching Award 16-20.But as the Youth Award is a mandatory requirement for Academy Coaches we can "safely assume" he has. He most certainly isn't from my knowledge of him, a long ball merchant. I have never been on any FA Coaching Course or FA Coaching Session where the long ball game has been promoted as the Method. Sorry but I just havn't.The FA promoting the long ball game is a myth, nothing else. I took my first Coaching Badge in the Charlie Hughes era so I span the old and New era. You are entitled to your opinion like anyone else but you are wrong. I respect your playing pedigree but have you been on any coaching courses. To say a coach can't learn by literature is plain daft. Every coach in the world has picked up a coaching manual.Coaches communicate with each other in many ways including the writen word. How do you think European coaches learned about Brasilian coaching methods. Easy they bought the book and the video and are intelligent enough to transfer the methods used on to the training pitch. (pint) (pint) (pint) (pint) (pint) (pint) (puke)
RE:Terry Nutkins By the way I agree with most of what you say. Lets not start argueing about something we broadly agree on. I'm not continueing with this thread. Up the Reds ff
RE: I am not stating that i am the Jose Mourinho of this board..... the remark was aimed at Johnny Coachman he was the one that was Pontificating
RE: so... and why would that be, all i,m saying is if someone starts saying that "Blah, Blah " is crap at his job then they should at least have the balls to put thier name to it. I take stick on here about my affiliation with AFC off certain people, fine that is thier opinion, but these same people do not attack me personally.
I'm in agreement with you and i wasn't arguing just stating points about various coaching methods. that i have never agreed with. Mainly Charles Hughes which i thought was a load of tosh. I'm sorry if it felt like i was being vinditive towards you because that wasn't the intention. My worry was the Academy as was yours. Thanks for the final response.
you know what? i agree with your comments re slagging of someone's abilities but don't people do that every day on here about ritchie, mcphail etc? why should the academy bloke deserve special defence?
