Money? I live 70 miles away and usually bring my 2 lads so it costs me something like £60. However, I was there yesterday, but didn't bring the kids this time, but it would have still cost me £35. When the football has been crap (like at Leicester - what a waste of money that was), its sometimes hard to justify it.
are there really stay way fans or is it just because there are only around 9 -10k barnsley fans in the area? the problem is that 'the people of barnsley' aren't really bothered about being 'fans of barnsley'.
RE: are there really stay way fans
Surely then everyone who cares for Barnsley FC should try to rectify this and work to increase the fan base.

[*]It is the clubs responsibility to supply a team that can compete and produce (surely this season they are doing that so far?)[*]It is the clubs responsibility to advertise the games and encourage people to get down there. The ticket offer for Crystal Palace is a good start.[*]Surely it is the local press's responsibility to encourage people down to Oakwell with what they write. The chronicle is not always encouraging, we need the chronicle, Star and Dearne FM to get behind the club and encourage people to visit Oakwell, Oakwell AM can also help, but I think they broadcast to the converted. As an example (and I may be off the mark here, as I live away from Barnsley), surely Dearne FM can advertise forthcoming fixtures and encourage people to get down to Oakwell during the weeks leading up to games, say every hour after the news, only take say 1 minute of air time, could the Chronicle not advertise the forthcoming games better?[*]Surely it is our responsibility as supporters to advertise the games more to our mates, friends, family, encourage them to get to oakwell. The obvious choice for this is the forthcoming game against Crystal Palace. [*]The Supporters Trust also must take responsiblity to help. As part of this the Supporters Trust are producing posters to advertise this game and also flyers to go in the Barnsley independant. We will have large A3 sized posters to distribute round tarn and in surrounding areas. If you can put up a poster in a local shop/pub/club etc, please let Ex City Tyke or me know and let's see if we can get the attendances up around the 15,000 mark for this game.[/list] You can also download a poster for this event from the Trust website or email me or paul for a jpeg format.

Would Be Nice............ if the Dearne coverage could be extended to an exclusive Barnsley show going head to head with Football Heaven.
RE: Would Be Nice............ a phone in yes, one hour on goings on at Oakwell would rapidly become stale if you are struggling for news, but I think hourly comments, especially at key times (mornings/evenings) but ideally hourly would be good.
RE: Would Be Nice............ If we don't plan on talking to Radio Sheffield anytime soon, the end goal of working with Dearne should be to gradually work up to the full package. Go from what we have now, to week night phone ins, to callers after an home match, to commentary on home matches, to commentary on away games etc.
Apologies.. I was properly grumpy last night Really fancied a drink for 1st time in almost a month but cant cos of antibiotics! RR#2 told me off for that reply. In reality about 4k+ of the people who watched in the Prem are glory hunters and will only come back if we get back there. The other 4k who stuck with it until 2000ish are probably occasionals now. Many will be teens who have 'grown out of it'. These are the people who may be drawn back if we stay in play off places & will glory hunt if we get to Wembley The 8k season ticket holders will be longtime fans and are likely to be local. Away fans average 1k. There a thesis about our fan base.
Just 1 point We took over 20000 to Cardiff, where are half of them now? No-one can say the football isn't good. It isn't as expensive as other clubs but it just seems like fans will go when the team are doing well, but we're doing well now, so, where are they?
Not every one who went to Cardiff was a reds fan.......... From my personal experience there were Sheff U, Sheff Weds, and also Huddersfield fans who followed us to Cardiff for a Day out with their mates. Also a fair sprinkling of Wives and Girlfriends who can't make it to Oakwell every week. Some of our fans also have child care issues now.
(wicked)

RE: Just 1 point How is what other clubs charge relevant to us???
Would you go and watch Huddersfield if it was a 5er every week?

the Watford turn out was the poor showing mate, we didn't do badly 9K I woulda thowt they being where they are and where they have been recently would have trebled their attendance..after all Watford is not that far down the M! and it was a Saturdy, and before any chuff starts , I now work most Saturdays so have had to curtail my attendance a lot.
