The owners have a big rebuilding job to do at Barnsley.

I am hoping that now that we are back in the Championship, without doing anything "crazy," the Board
make a concerted effort to grow the team and the Club within the parameters of any budget that
they might make available. If as they intimated in their mission statement when they took us over, they are prepared to fund attempts to get us into the Premiership, it would be extremely interesting to see what they might be prepared to do, " finance wise" , if we were fortunate enough to return to footballs top tier.

Cardiff, Fulham and Huddersfield Town, spent approximately £140 million between them on their new signings last season, but as we know, all three are back in the Championship next season. It goes without saying, that even if they sell their top earners, as well as any fees they might recoup, they will be able to use their parachute payments to mount a challenge using any new players they may sign, in the hope that they are able to go straight back up.

I was watching Chris Wilder on BBC TV and he intimated that his owners had already told him they were going to be "prudent" with regards to any fees that they might make available to him for new additions. He seemed resigned to the fact, that he's going to have a struggle on his hands to keep them up. Do we think our Board would be cautious, or to ensure that they can establish us as a Premiership Club in the hope of enjoying ongoing season upon season " riches", they might be prepared to speculate in order that they are able to accumulate.?

I would like to think any owner of the club going forward doesn't play roulette by spending tonnes of money if we were ever in the fortunate place of being up there again. You only have to look at the likes of Sunderland to see what can happen if the results don't match the investment in playing staff. It's not just the outlay on players but the wages over 2-3 years.

I hope we strengthen to the point that we become relatively safe in the championship without risking the long term future of the club. Or in other words, if Chien and Co walk away we're not left up shít creek.

Like a lot of Northern clubs, we are usually described as " gritty" or " battling", because in the past
we have always been potrayed as the underdog or the " poorer" relation to the much wealthier clubs whenever we have recorded a win against them.

It always annoys me when having won against a team who haven't put up too much resistance,
when reporting on a particular sides future capabilities the commentators invariably say, " it will be
interesting to see if they can put in a similar performance on a bleak winters afternoon away at
Barnsley." I suppose in another way, we could be flattered, because it seems to suggest, that "battling
Barnsley", will give anyone a game.

I think. Battling Barnsley derived from our cup runs in 1909/10 and 1911/12.
You’ve forgot to add “teams like” Barnsley on bleak winters afternoons lol
