Make sure you check out Grayston Unity and Meandering Bear. Both brilliant pubs run by brilliant people.
There's on street parking in the town centre but it's but limited, there's a large multi storey at Vue you have to turn left before yoy get to it and go around the roundabout and back on yourself, there's also a cheap Euro carpark before you get to Vue but not sure if you can access it, the whole town practically dug up with road improvements. My advice if your travelling in from Barnsley come through Flockton, Bradley then down to Elland and pick up the A629 follow that towards town centre but turn right signs for Shay Stadium and follow that road for about 1/2 mile there's plenty of small car parks around that area plus cheap on street parking opposite a cracking Ossett brewery pub called Three Pigeons, literally 5 minute stroll to piece hall and easy to get back out towards going home same way or straight upto J24 of M62 etc. P.s you won't be able to drive past that little roundabout before Eureka as they close that road ( Eureka, train station) on gig nights for traffic.
Halifax is fine decent folk, use to work there a while back.. Some of the surrounding countryside is truly stunning..
Truly stunning, feel blessed it's on my doorstep. If you haven't already If ever the chance take the B6114 Saddleworth Road out of West Vale up through Barkiskand and over the M62 flyover (rainbow bridge) there's a good sized parking spot where the B6114 meets New hey road from Huddersfield. It's one of the finest views you'll ever see looking down onto Marsden Moor from about 1800 ft above sea level, just exceptional
