Another song from around the same time was Jig A Jig by East of Eden. I could only have been around fourteen at the time. Just getting into the more progressive stuff opposed to the cheesy pop stuff that was around. Like chirpy chirpy cheep cheep.
Reight song East of Eden did there Ian. also saw the Curved Air back street luv video recently, she wer a fit lass. My 1st single brought with my hard earned was Trex, Ride a White Swan..
Good first buy mate. Remember being in second year at school and my mate coming in telling me of a record he heard on radio last night. It was ride a white swan. My first purchase of a single was Rolling Stones get off my cloud.
Was indeed a weird time. Charts were dominated by the likes of David Cassiday, Bay Shi**y Rollers, etc, but every so often a Sabbath, a Nazareth or this beaut would rock up on ToTP. One of the first singles I bought. https://www.google.com/search?q=wea...JxjqAjIJCAMQIxgnGOoCMgkIBBAjGCcY6gIyCQgFEC4YJ
Oh yeah Family. Great band and the singer with a very distinctive voice. My favourite In my own time.
Part of the Union was definitely NOT typical of The Strawbs' output. They were very much folk-rock with a gravelly voiced lead singer called Dave Cousins - similar to one just mentioned above [Roger Chapman of Family]. I bought the Grave New World LP in 1972 not long before I got to see them live at the Civic. That was when the Civic attracted some big names and The Strawbs were superb. Listen to the track New World, copied below, which features some lovely mellotron work from ace keyboard artist Blue Weaver. Play it LOUD!! New World
Burlesque was my favourite but I have all 3 on my spotify along with Jethro Tull Witches Promise and Deep purple.
