Would they go to the wall though ? Imo clubs like, would be left to rot or punished without a second thought from EFL . Bigger clubs would be given more leniency or helped out because there’s no way they gonna see large fan bases (gate receipts) go to the wall. Something will be allowed to put in place by the governing body some new owners would be clamouring over themselves to own a club of Wendy’s or Derby’s stature and fan base . Little old clubs like ,wouldn’t get a second thought as they would be replaced if they did t make with like for like . It sounds cynical but imo that’s how it will be . Bolton and Bury are my precedents on this theory .
My point about Wednesday, Derby, Reading and Birmingham was about points deductions and separate to clubs going to the wall. No idea which clubs will go bust but I believe there will be a few and that the Championship won't avoid it thereby requiring numbers to be made up. Re new owners clamouring to buy clubs that go - not sure about that tbh. I think there's a big financial reset coming in football and wealthy individuals either won't have the spare cash to invest or more likely will be less inclined to invest it. In recent times most clubs have been bought after administration but I think that might change.
Yeah I get your point on points deductions but I just don’t think they’ll get the appropriate if it harms the clubs imo . In terms of rich investors clamouring for these clubs I didn't mean on the scale they have been doing but Buisness men see potential and significant crowds won’t go unnoticed.
Null and void, couldnt care less about liverpool, leeds etc.Stop in championship whether we deserve it or not because i am a reds fan.End of story.
Personally I hope the season gets cancelled, irrespective of if we feel we haven't earned the right to stay up. It will go some way to finally having one back on our side for the atrocious decision of promoting Arsenal to the top flight many moons ago. Bout time that got re-paid
If we stay up we haven't been lucky at all. We are a team, a club, trying like hell to compete with other teams with far more resources than us. Do these other clubs in our division wallowing in owner supplied wealth give a toss about us? No. Does the parachute payment system regard us with any favour whatsoever? No. Does anyone seem to care that there are fair play rules which operate more in the breach than the observance? No Are we operating on a level playing field? No. Do we have the ability to apply the same resources, at the start of each season, to secure the same outcome as the others we compete against? No. Is there any reason to think that every season in the Championship is other than an automatically unfair struggle? No Should we ever think that anyone will do us any favours? No. Is anyone saying we don't flog our guts out for the most part - players and fans - to get the best return we can? No Why can't we have things going our way for once? Why can't we be the beneficiaries of an unfortunate situation? We were shafted years ago by virtue of an administrative decision that denied us promotion. We've been sorely treated (I would say that) every now and then but we're still proud and strong. So now.....if we are in this division next season... it's because we've fooking earned it one way or another over the last 133 years. You reds.
I wonder how playing behind closed doors would affect things? I'm tempted to think it would suit teams with everything to play for as they would be motivated whereas teams who were neither going up nor down would probably struggle for the same motivation in a match without atmosphere
Don’t get this ‘We deserve to go down’ rhetoric, Irrespective of personal opinion whether we would stay up or not. At the end of the season the league tables do not lie. We are/were not at the end of the season. Obviously if the remaining games are not played then whatever decision is reached it will upset some clubs. As mentioned elsewhere in this thread, what about the clubs who have breached the FFP rules. They are the ones who are getting out of jail and have done for seasons. Let’s get off the backs of habitual FFP compliers like us, who suffer, nearly ever season because of the ‘cheats’ If we want to cry unfair and bleat on about not deserving this or deserving that, focus on the clubs that cheat.
Think the difference between Scotland and England will come down to money. Lot more money in English football in comparison so could have more to throw at a court case.
If the season recommences then I am afraid we will be relegated as we are just too far behind to make up the difference with 9 games to go. We have been poor for most of the season and the mini revival ended with Reading and Cardiff matches. There is no way I think the season will be made void and we would not want it to be either if we were at the top end of the league. We just have not been good enough for most of the season. But at the end of the day it's only football and dealing with the covid-19 crisis is much much more important.
Agree. The club needs to be relegated. It would be unfair to other clubs that have spent money and planned sufficiently for Barnsley to remain in the Championship. We just haven’t planned sufficiently to stay in the Championship. Let’s us hope it’s a big lesson learnt by the directors. The directors must up their game if we are to believe what they say - that the club will become successful under their stewardship.
We deserve to be relegated We need a change in our policy if we are to progress to any degree no idea what will happen regarding the football season - there isn’t a fair solution really. It’s impossible.
The flipside being that the crowd for a struggling team can be the 12th man if they get behind them. The flipside of that of course, is that the atmosphere is much less likely to turn toxic with twenty people in the stands. I think I'm going to need a new coin here.
In all this i cant help but think about what someone posted earlier. Remember when we were 4 0 up at Plymouth . Game abandoned . Had to re start the game at 0 0.. Karma i say !!!!!!!!!!
Just seen football show on sky , Paul Cook Wigan Manager on promo/relegation . He says it would be unfair as Charlton had only been in the relegation places for Twenty Minutes all season before suspension/cancellation. And nothing could be classed as set in stone on all positions . Have to agree with him .
