    Never said they weren’t good mate. Cracking live band and one of the best of the more modern era if you ignore the 90’s.

    Alex Turner wouldn’t make the Top 50 in terms of front men of the last 40 years though. I think that’s just confusing how good the band are with the OP’s original question, which was the point I was making. Satire or not, you hardly leave a show thinking ‘what a guy Alex Turner is’.

    My 'they were very good' comment was in isolation, not in response to anything you said :)

    Not so sure on your last comment, it depends on the individual. I definitely wouldn't think that, but my brother (for one) and many other fan boys would. My bro hero-worships him, and for that I think each to their own. For me, I just find him a bit cringy now, but maybe that's Turner's point; maybe he's playing us all. I think he can hold his own with a crowd (Glasto etc), but as I said, I personally cringe a little bit. The biggest thing I give him credit for is his wordplay and use of language, as an English graduate it's something I appreciate. He's an average guitarist and I don't really consider him a 'frontman', even when he downs the guitar and just has the mic.

    He’s a superb songwriter. Even years on from the teenage angst years where some artists start to struggle and songwriting can become a bit ‘meh’. He holds his own with a crowd, when he bothers to engage, because everyone eats out of the palm of his hand as it’s the Arctic Monkeys. But he doesn’t really lead the band, lead the crowd, or command the stage like some of the other names mentioned.

    I’ve seen them maybe a dozen times in three countries, so I’m coming at this from being a big fan. I just think they’re a great band rather than a band that has a great front man in the sense we’re talking about here.

    I agree :) I like their albums too and how they've meandered and not just gone from indie to rock and stayed there; I like the curve ball that is 'Tranquility Base..' I'm at a stage now where i don't get too excited about them, i can't put my finger on why. I feel the same way about The Libertines, who I used to be obsessed with. I think your boys The Cribs still have that vitality however, they still excite me, and they're still keeping it real (as they always have).

    I know what you mean. Five years ago, considering we’ve had lockdowns, I would have been trying to fly anywhere in Europe to get to one of their recently announced shows. Now I’m more likely to pick up a ticket at short notice from a friend or pay slightly over the odds and go spur of the moment. Long gone are the days of Benicassim and Old Trafford Cricket Ground where I wasn’t missing it for the world. That might be an age thing like!

    The Cribs always keep it real. Even they lost their way for an album or two though. Ryan and Gary are two very different front men.

    I went to the Buxton Festival in 1972 (I think) in large part because Curved Air were on the bill. You can imagine my bitter regret when they didn't turn up....:(:(:(
