I did and I thought it looked like him. I couldnt remember him being in the 4th division squad. Though he was playing the season after so it makes sense.
Thanks, obviously the one whose face is behind his arm could be anyone but the other looked too thin to be Chambers to me.
Jeez, that's a glaring hole in my memory! I really can't remember him starting that season in the team. Always liked Glyn but Derek Bell produced the goods that year. I can still see him smacking one in from 20 yards on his debut.
Imagine that, signing a player from Fourth Division team and him coming good for us Derek Bell and Tommy Graham (Villa reserve) were a good partnership.
Yes, that was the start of the great times to come. 21,000 for a Fourth Division promotion decider. Electric atmosphere and John Saunders playing the hero that night....and then getting handed a free transfer the next day. Good memory for him to take away from his time at Oakwell though. He came from Lincoln if I remember rightly and was a dependable centre half.
Remember the one he got in the fog at York? It was the only time we saw the ball in the second half, the rest of the time we stood there listening to the crowd at the other end to see if they scored.....
Course he did - stupid of me! I really miss my scrap book collection. Mine of information was that. It's resident in someone else's house now. Hope she is looking after it!
I went to most of the away games that season. Missed the York one though. Last game of the season away at Wimbledon sticks in my mind. Sunny evening, promoted already, 18 years old, not a care in the world.
I started my first job after Uni at the beginning of December '78 in Cambridge and didn't drive (or have a car - also too busy having a great social life) so I missed most of the rest of the season unfortunately. I managed to get home for a few games at Oakwell though.
