I don't know what to think. I think my initial emotions have relented and now I'm more in a state of melancholy. An hour ago it was blind panic and yesterday it was pure rage.
What’s puzzling me is we have bought a striker in Cole, but are playing Oduor out of position to fill that role, and it’s not as if he’s doing a good job at it either. If Cole is no better then a fringe LWB playing out of position then what was the point in buying him??? Surely he has to start against QPR unless we revert to a front 2?
One important point here is that 'international clearance' and VISAs are two completely different things. FIFA deal with clearance on footballing matters, VISAs are the Home Office on right to work. We've said 'subject to international clearance' for years but traditionally there's been no issues for EU players re Visas. Incompetence is one thing but the willful deception takes it next level. Either Schopps been asked to lie or not told the reality of things. Extremely poor either way.
He tested positive for Covid and has been building up is fitness. Schopp called him out specifically in the post-match interview from Tuesday.
I’d point out that DVLA were in a uniquely dire position for Covid. Not just untypical of the public sector as a whole, but the only government department uniquely unable to run its business whilst keeping its staff safe. A decade of underfunding didn’t help, but it appears their IT simply won’t allow remote working. Meanwhile, HMRC, DWP, Home Office*, Education, NHS pulled out all the stops to move mountains and keep the country running. *The only other government business that came close to failure was border force, but that’s completely understandable, as they found themselves with a whole new business objective they’d had no time to plan for, or to staff for.
Which based on our recruitment announcements, and how quickly we replaced Val and negotiated his departure, means we haven't suffered there. Where it looks like we have struggled is the paperwork with these two new signings, which is where the lack of a club secretary likely comes in. There's no way we sign two players, announce them, and then discover they can't get international clearance. For all the jibs and jabs made towards the club we're not that tin pot at all. I just think paperwork demands and getting full approval has taken longer than we envisaged - but communication could obviously have been so much better and not as mixed as it has been.
good point. Very strange. Didn’t they come over here for interviews so surely they are in the country? How did this happen without a visa? Maybe the visa issue is the lie and we have signed two hopelessly unfit players but it’s more palpable to blame brexit / visas etc
I'm not sure if he's at the club on a daily basis. Above my pay grade that one, but I'm pretty certain he's been at the club this Summer.
Its a heck of a void if not given the club sec went too. CEO is a full time role and at our club in particular, you can't do it on a quasi arms length basis. And an edit.... what do you make of the report by O'Kane yesterday that the club only found out there was a visa issue yesterday? That doesn't seem to align with the notion of paperwork taking longer than expected.
In anticipation of the feeding frenzy continuing, it's always good to see someone raging against the machine trying to put some logical reasoning into a situation. You do this often. Thank you.
But once you've got the new head coach in place, your CEO announced and working his notice, and the majority of your recruitment completed, you don't need to be at Oakwell seven days a week to do the job properly. Dane and GG weren't at Oakwell all week every week, for example.
