I disagree it should move away. It's unique. Snooker is a sport where you have to watch in silence. I'll pay to do so if I get a good view of the table which you do from every seat in there otherwise I'll watch at home, if at all.
I’m very much in the fence on this debate. Love the snooker at the crucible, I’m going on Saturday as I have tickets to the world seniors semi finals….. however I’ve not been to the main tournament for the last 2 years as I have been priced out of it. The ticket prices are outrageous now. I get the end justifies the means as they always sell out. But as someone who always makes a day of it (including food and drinks in Sheffield) it’s just made it a ridiculously expensive day, hence I now take Mum to the seniors event instead. While it would seem strange to see the worlds somewhere else, it doesn’t mean quite as much to me now that I don’t go to it. If that makes sense??
Wembley got rebuilt. Darts moved their worlds to Ally Pally. Snooker shouldn't just stand still. I would hate for Crucible to not move with the times. Metrodome suffered by not doing so in losing the English Open after only one year and all their PDC Darts events.
There’s loads of reasons why it should move to a different venue and a few sentimental reasons why it should stay. Yorkshire needs to retain a major sport world final simply because we haven’t got another. Oh hang on, we’ve got the world coal carrying championship….
Ok, the World 'Seniors' Championships are at the Qtr Final stage now, and Jimmy White has got whacked!. I remember when he won it again last year and the beaten Finalist/Runner-up Alfie Burden, swore in his live after match Tv defeat interview lol. I couldn't believe it, but I also couldn't stop laughing at it.
Thorburn is doing some commentary work and looked well for his 76 years … still has a full head of hair in same style. Can’t imagine him playing under shot clock rules !
Wow, so who is (or who was) Igor Figueiredo ehh lol. He's the new '24 World Snooker Seniors Champion. He beat Jimmy in the Qtrs, and he beat Tony Drago in the Semis, and he beat Ken Doherty in the Final. But I don't know who the heck he is, or was, on the Snooker circuit.
Yeah that's what I mean lol. He's beat some memorable top former players there, and certainly had a difficult draw. Well done to him...but who is he.
Just googled him. He looks the sort of player that could throw up a surprise on the main tour. Similar profile to Jak Jones. (Only 46).
Highest ranked place was 75. His wiki page provides a good insight as to how he progressed. Failure of sponsorship a major factor. Expensive game if not competing at the highest level. Kyren Wilson commented that his parents remortgaged their home to help him to compete and reach his goal.
Spoke to Dave Gilbert on Tuesday when me and my son were playing at his club. He was going round dusting the window ledges with a feather duster...
