You've made some good points Rycal. Problem is you probably picked the wrong person to defend. YN became so abusive. Threatening. Vile comments etc. Some posters had/have an hatred that goes beyond a dislike. And I believe the debate suffers for it.
I personally just wish everyone had ignored him rather than go tit for tat. He'd have got the message.

 

Hi mate, i wasn,t defending him as such, just using him as an example , i have no affiliation to yn, no idea who he is, but have seen his posts and also the replies over the years, and as i have said previously he has brought a lot on himself but has also got a lot of hateful replies on posts that didn,t warrant it, if people have a deep set dislike for the guy do as you have done and completely ignore him rather than all joining in with what looks like a witch hunt...

 

Remembered all of those thanks - still think divisions are greater now.

 

I agree about the Nudger pile-on that frequently occurred towards the end of his BBS tenure. I also think Nudge fully expected some of those replies and the nature of them (and towards the end maybe he even welcomed them and enjoyed the role of devil's advocate). He did antagonize some, and there was a reaction. I agree with you that, ideally, people should post on a case-by-case basis, but I think for some they just couldn't get past some of his previous comments, and that's fair enough. It's very hard I imagine to try and be objective per post if you've been personally insulted previously by that person (I'm not speaking out of my own experience with Nudge by the way, I never experienced anything like that from him and just referring to examples that others have spoken of).

It's a shame because I lived opposite Chris (YN) for 7 years when I was a teenager, and he was a lovely bloke, had time for everyone, and as a neighbour was quiet and unassuming. I think it was best for everyone, including Chris, when he left, as it all became too much.

 

No, i obviously don,t meet your rigorous entry criteria, but the fact is, even if i have only made 1 post i am entitled to an opinion...
