JC is the very embodiment of all that is wrong with our society. A grade 'A' dumb ass freak show, who offers no constructive solutions to any of the real issues in our society. He lives in a huge mansion, makes shed loads of cash, paid for by license fee payers I might add, and he contributes nothing. He should stick to his condescending "talk to camera" about how only chavs buy affordable cars whiles he ponces off around Europe in super sport cars that less than 1% of the population can afford. He is less qualified to talk about anything other than cars than my pet gold fish - Clarkson here is my Message to you -

YOU HAVE GOT NOTHING OF VALUE TO ADD TO ANY DEBATE YOU RIGHT WING FASCIST, I SUGGEST YOU KEEP YOUR SLACK JAWED MEWING CACK TO YOURSELF!!!

It's not taxpayers or license payers money, it's his money, it became so as soon as he was legally paid it.

Is the money in your bank account your money, or does it belong to your boss? Or your "customers"?

Fancy spending your customers money ona PC and internet connection to post on the BBS!

In a world drowning in political correctness and left-wing fluffies its refreshing to see people still excercising their freedom of speech.

People don't have to agree with it, but this friggin' country has turned into a reight bunch of whining hippes wi no feight or spine.

    I suspect...

a lot of Clarkson's fortune comes from his very successful book sales, not to mention those DVD sales. And without knowing any figures, it could be that his drain on the license fee fund isn't as bad as could be imagined because the BBC sells Top Gear throughout the world. Here in Oz they love it. Most of my workmates say it is the only thing worth watching on telly.

My personal view is that Clarkson is wasted on Top Gear. Remember the compelling job he did on Brunel as part of the BBC's Greatest Briton thing or the documentary on VC winners? He can really bring a subject to life for the masses like no one else can. The thing is though, Top Gear is a plum job so why should he ever want to leave it. He's described the TG Live events as being the closest thing to being a rock star. Can't be bad.

As for his controversial comments, my take is that if someone can demonstrate that they're intelligent enough to know better and they're making the statements in the name of entertainment then a rational person should be able to take them in the spirit they were intended. It's the reason the likes of Gervais and Carr can get away with it too. He may have "equated disability with inability" but does anybody _really_ think it follows that people with one eye must be idiots? Nobody (surely?). It would be absurd (and that's where the comedy lies). So no harm done. If on the flipside, the disability had been something like for example a condition that affected motor functions resulting in slurred speech, something that could and is often mistaken by the ignorant for low intelligence it would be extremely insensitive and counter-productive to make jokes.

RE: That wasn't the point of the thread though....

Spot on mate. For what its worth, and your probably right, Im of a similar age - I like Clarkson. I think his arrogant snobbishness is part of his appeal and as such he plays on it largely.
