there would be a bit more room though, if we got rid of all your full stops.

    He's brought in

O'Grady, Scotland & Jennings so far. I'm nailing my colours to the mast and backing David Flitcroft. Others can do as they see fit.

maybe that's why football is in such a poor state, so few are the days of one man one club, these days its dog eat dog and the game in the long term suffers. Plus, gone are the days when lads at the top dropped down the divisions in their droves as they came to the end of their careers or became player managers. Maybe if there were more sentiment in todays thinking Loyalty would exist in many more cases

    Re: He's brought in

an interesting one JLW. with o'grady and scotland being loans from last term, i don't really see them as new signings. for me, even if we retain all the players, we still have a CB, RWB and striker to sort. you could maybe argue jennings could be used as a striker, just off cog.

cranie and luke next week would finally nail the retained. then need to go to work on the RWB, CB and maybe a striker

i'm increasingly confident that mansford and watkins are helping flicker do the business. new era

    Scotland wasn't a loan

Both he & O'Grady were brought to the club by Flitcroft last January and were a great success. Perhaps I'm just a blinkered optimist, but I believe the manager knows where we need strengthening and is capable of solving those issues.

I think Nudger was suggesting that managers should not show sentiment when building a team... not that there is no sentiment whatsoever. If that's the case then I agree with him. Steele is replaceable at this level and Hassell definitely is even given his god-like plaudits from people on here

Exactly, I feel like I'm marking an exam paper when reading some posts as I can't help but pick up on the inconsistencies!

WUM. I'm sick of reading posts from so called fans having a go at Bobby and Luke. So called fans who offer no justification for their vitriol but continue to post ***** about our two longest serving players. Personally I think it's bordering on embarrassing.

Just because some people offer a criticism of the 'Hassell is God' mantra does not mean it is vitriolic. Look the word up. People have different opinions. My opinion is that Hassell is not good enough at this level. I do concur that he is a good servant and a genuine player but even so I maintain he isnt good enough...

I'm glad Bobby has been offered a deal. I don't think he'll start very often, nor do I think he should, he's still good back up and can play multiple positions.

I disagree about Steele. He's good enough for our club, a solid Championship goalkeeper.

I simply do not think Hassell is good enough for this level. He is a good lad and a loyal servant but that doesnt make me change my opinion about his quality. He is very weak against pace and at his age he will be exposed against that more and more in my opinion. That is not a vitriolic comment but a reasoned opinion

Correct. The crap against Wiseman WAS embarrassing because he was still trying to bed in and needed time. He is not the perfect article either but he should not have been booed and ridiculed. He was making a big step up to the Championship and people were on his back from day one

People seem to think a players been at a club means they are good, i actually think it says otherwise at a club like Barnsley.
Stones butterfield vaz te to name three but people will like them because they are seen as loyal, i'll stick to liking players because they are very good.

No it wasn't but Wiseman was poor during the first half of the season however the booing of him by some was completely out of order. Notwithstanding his early season form he turned things around and quite rightly got the plaudits and praise he deserved. Bobby and Luke have never been anything other than consistent so to see them getting attacked on forums is frustrating.

I agree with you but I am still inclined to try and give players the benefit of the doubt for a while. I did think the Wiseman slagging was really not on. I do think Hassell is now in decline however and if he wants to play football he would be better looking elsewhere

That's a point..........all the crap thrown at Wiseman and it looks like the focus has now been shifted to McNulty and yet both these players are better than Hassell.
They may not have been when Hassell was in his prime............but they are now..........and the only reason that Hassell is still liked is because he's been at the club for a long time
That sentiment doesn't work in football

Same goes for Steele............a great shot stopper.........but dosent control his area and cannot pass the ball

I'm looking to see Barnsley knocking on the door of top 6 this season (got £100 on it)
So its going to be a huge disappointment for me if these two players start the season
