Yep, the badly womble has had a shocker alright. If only there was another option that didn't live in Mary poppins land.
1. Have you read Labour's manifesto? You know, looked at what the party is proposing to do now rather than focusing on something it's leader might have said in the past? 2. There's a current Conservative councillor in Croydon who was an IRA member. Make of that what you will.
Read it or don't I think a lot of us are old enough to have fully experienced that politicians as a whole are a bunch of inveterate bullshiters
A free press. Owned and opened by the super rich for the super rich. Any politician of any shade will tell you there is no free press. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fan Forum mobile app
Lies like that are just disgusting. You revolt me. Argue on ideas discuss differences. But don't lie it is sad and pathetic. You should be ashamed of yourself. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fan Forum mobile app
It is entirely free in that it is not state owned like we would see if we live in a dictatorship. The fact that they are free allows them to express the views of their owners and editors. Political opinion is not the same as bias and it shouldn't be confused - there are options. Katherine Viner sits on the left of the political spectrum but her opinion is not controlled by the government. Ipso recently refused to sign up to the press regulation panel arguing it would lead to state regulation. The Guardian also refused to sign up (I don't think they use Ipso).
Pretty interesting article http://www.newyorker.com/news/daily-comment/press-freedom-new-censorship Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fan Forum mobile app
Very interesting but not evidence of the errosion of a free press in the UK. The antithesis of a free press are described well in that article, none of them are factors affecting journalists here, certainly not significantly.
You're right JC. I heard the news breaking on LBC last night and have been listening this morning. To say it has left me feeling numb is an understatement. It's utterly heart-breaking.
Absolutely devastating. I wish they would all political parties could join together and form a common response. There's more important things to sort out than bickering between each other.
By and large our press is free, inasmuch as you can espouse any opinion, as long as you make it clear it's your opinion, and not worry about being arrested, or worse. I live in a country with a very limited free press (although it's nowhere near as bad as is made out, as there's plenty of decent stuff available online), and generally the UK is still pretty good in comparison. However, you still get a lot of opinion dressed up as fact. A free media shouldn't be carte blanche to write whatever ******** you want, in the hope that easily persuaded people swallow it - which is all too often what we see, in my opinion. It's like a lot of things in modern Britain - on a world level, we're not doing too badly. Just we could be doing so much better. The same with our education system, our infrastructure, our fiscal policies and countless other things. And that makes me pretty sad to be honest.
